  • Or you just disagree with them and can’t fathom why anyone would ever have a differing opinion? You don’t have to go around calling anyone who disagrees with you a corporate shill to every single person replying to him.

They’ve said nothing that isn’t reasonable. Piracy is theft. So is stealing art and data for training.

  • I have the exact opposite opinion. He’s exactly the person that the Linux fanboys are pushing to adopt the OS, Tech Savvy, but not with sysadmin levels of knowledge.

The average user is going to have to install linux if they want to use it. It’s not going to ever come as the default option as long as Windows and Max exist. So an average user is going to have to install, and then configure the OS. That’s going to be a universal pain point in adoption.

Windows computers don’t come pre setup with software (for the most part, there’s some small exceptions for pre-built manufacturer software bloat), neither should any linux install. A user is going to have to understand how to install and configure the OS as that’s an integral part of running it.

  • Linus may not be the all knowing tech god that a lot of people like to make him out to be, but I’d definitely say he’s the average “tech-savvy” guy, but isn’t someone who could properly administrate a homelab, let alone infrastructure for a lot of people.

The Linux challenge was extremely accurate to what would happen if the average windows users tried to use Linux with no outside help. In fact, it’s very similar to my experiences with Linux, where I can accomplish simple tasks, but once I need power user features they’re much harder to find, documentation is patchy at best and you’ve got to hope they didn’t change anything in a recent version of the OS, cause some commands just change arbitrarily (looking at you Docker-compose on Ubuntu 20+)

  • Using an OS suited to his needs (gaming/content creation) isn’t being a fanboy, it’s using the best possible tools for the job. Linux is still a worse gaming experience than windows, no matter what way you try to sell it

  • I’m with you here, this looks great, and is a huge improvement over the AT livery. There’s just enough going on to catch your eye, but not too much noise for the sake of shapes and patterns.

Looks like a classic livery, and that’s what I like.

  • Torro Rosso has to be the best this year so far

Stake Kicks Sauber is really ugly, and while it’ll be identifiable, it’s not pleasant to look at.

    Mclaren/Williams look alright

Alpine I’m going to have to hold judgement on, but it’s so bare that it just looks kinda boring

  • That works until they explicitly say they won’t support Linux, eg. Adobe, Bungie, GoXLR, etc

Plenty of companies know that it’s trivial to implement. They just simply do not care, nor will they ever care.

  • I don’t see it as exploitation. The players chose to go to that school and play football. They’re being provided benefits worth 10s of thousands of dollars, as well as significant amenities that regular students are not. It’s not my problem that sports makes more money than other extracurriculars. The band, the cheer team and every other sport make that same decision, but don’t get paid either, because the school is providing something of value in exchange for the labor provided.

I also agree with the original premise of NIL, which allowed players to benefit from their Name, Image and Likeness. That is no longer the way it’s being applied, and is pay for play.

Paying the players as employees will end women’s sports. It’ll also kill the significant majority of non Football/MBB programs, resulting in a net loss of sports programs everywhere, as well as the end of the American domination of most Olympic sports.

  • The iPad Pro covers 99% of Photographer use cases. They’ve got enough processing power now that it doesn’t really have a difference from their laptops

Source: Am considering an iPad Pro instead of a laptop for my photography.

  • To be honest, DEs are one of the biggest things I dislike about trying to use Linux. Nothing works with each other, solutions for one don’t work for another and unless you spend weeks configuring them they all look and function the same.

Windows and Mac are simple. There’s one option, it works well and doesn’t need a bunch of tweaking to make it tolerable (at least to me)

  • I’ve personally had poor experiences with Mint, Fedora, Ubuntu, Manjaro and one or two others I’ve tried. Every single one required a few hours of tweaking in the terminal to get it even close to being functional, and I constantly found new things it wouldn’t work with (hardware, software, games, etc)

After about a week of being unable to use my computer as I’d like to (online gaming and photo editing) I went back to Windows.

  • I’m not, nor would I want to. Unions are great for certain fields, but not mine, and would hurt more than it’d help me. It has nothing to do with this either.

Just because someone feels some way doesn’t make that feeling an objective truth.

  • Yep, nobody is going to watch a minor league game. The reason college athletics work is because of the name attatched to the school. Nobody cares about some minor league team, they care about the team that represents the school they went to.

  • I can claim my job is exploiting me, despite being paid a fair wage (which I believe a degree and scholarship are) but it doesn’t make it true.

They’re killing the golden goose. Ending college athletics ends almost all their careers. They won’t get paid, there will just be no offerings for them to play anymore.
