  • And the worst part is they don't know when to quit, they just come back twice as mean and thrice as crazy.

  • Barry fucking Goldwater knew these kinds of people were trying to take over his party, and he for sure wasn't a Democrat.

"Frankly these people frighten me. Politics demands compromise. These people believe they're acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried dealing with them.".

  • Some would say fulfillment is nullification. Jesus didn't say he was there to change the law, but to fulfill it. Some claim his death and subsequent resurrection fulfilled the laws of the Old Testament for every man, woman, and child.

  • Well, Republicans don't really have that strong of a majority in the House, given that they gave Santos the boot, and McCarthy is getting set to retire after losing the Speakership. It's also possible that by the time this makes it to the floor, McConnell may finally shuffle off this mortal coil (fingers crossed).

  • But like, you bring up "human basic necessities" and soon the old arguments about Maslow's Hierarchy rear their ugly head.

  • Yep. Until the find a way to remotely brick your vehicle like how John Deere does to its farm equipment if you hack the software. Or Microsoft bricking your PC if you don't have Genuine Windows installed.

  • I remember when many GOP lawmakers were reliving what happened on 1/6, and talking about how Trump almost got THEM killed, and I thought finally, we were going to see some action, thought they would finally have Trump cooked. So naive, I was.

I fully believe it has to do with Project2025. They want it so bad they are willing to die for it, and in all likelihood even kill for it.

  • I know you're joking, but if you remember the story of the Christmas Truce, the Germans tried to meet the Canadians under a banner of truce, unarmed, and Canadian troops just gunned them down, anyway. Now shooting a combatant that wants to make nice is a war crime. WW1 Canadians were Canadians who stopped saying "sorry". Although, in Canada's defense, they were still a British Colony at that time and were used as shock troops and frontline troops during WW1. So, they were the first to fall to machine gun fire from the Germans. There were a lot of cases of Germans surrendering and Canadians saying, "Hard no, bud!" Eventually an entire Regiment was disbanded and their military spending was ordered to be cut by 25%.

  • Long ago, we decided that gathering to issue a formal redress of our grievances was an acceptable alternative to simply breaking down our ruler's front doors and beating them to death in front of their families. These Republicans really want to go back to those days.

  • What should be more well known is the fact that Canada is half the reason we have the Geneva Conventions! Y'all were fucking brutal in WW1.

  • I agree. I think that if Trump is elected and puts an end to democracy as we know it, but it won't be a dictatorship of Trump, alone. Trump is but a mortal man. And whoever replaces him will be worse.

  • You are being voted down by people like me who generally try to shun interaction with other people. I'm no misanthrope, but in my 30+ years of living I've not met many people I would always interact with when I have a choice.

  • I'm sorry, have you actually had mostly pleasant experiences with real humans? Must be nice. Are you with the life complaints department? Yes I've had multiple bad interactions with real people and would like to file a complaint.

  • People like Rep Foxx, they've got this image of an America gone by in their heads, of a nation made of calloused hands and workman's coveralls, of nails and kneecaps, of fists and hammers, not necessarily hard-hearted, but with their egos safely tucked away behind the 6 inches of emotional boiler plate needed to sally the fuck forth into the wild blue bitchfest that is life.

  • The only difference between Musk and Rush is that Musk doesn't board his own rockets if he thinks they're going to kill him. Rush knew his little toy sub wasn't safe. Not only that, but he convinced other rich idiots that it was and conned them into getting on board with him.

  • Exactly. Look at what happened with the OceanGate II Scandal. Stockton Rush, founder of the company was killed when he thought he could bend reality to his will. But the laws of physics can't be bribed or bullied. They can be bent, but not broken. He was told by the manufacturer of the carbon fiber tube that was his submarine that it would not be suitable for use in a high pressure environment. He even fired his own safety guy because he never wanted to be told "no".

  • I love that they added the part where he said "Any people that's been persecuted for two thousand years must have done something wrong."

  • Exactly. With apologies to Michelle Obama, "They go low, we go high!" does not work. It was never intended to work.

Democrats have a ton of sportsmanship trophies, and what do Republicans have? Well, they've got the SCOTUS, the House, and tons of State governments.

  • Yep. Bully parents show up with their bully attorneys to bully the district in court. Zero Tolerance exists to protect the school, not the students. That way, in court their lawyers can point to it and say, "Our hands are clean! We have a Zero Tolerance policy! Per district policy, we cannot take sides!"

  • Yeah, but that's the thing. Everyone in the GOP already knew what Santos was about before he was even elected. They haven't told him shit. I have no doubt that it's actually worse that anything he's said, but I highly doubt he's going to take anyone down with him.
