Switched to Linux a year ago. Haven't looked back since. I didn't even know Windows was getting those creepy ass advertisements all over the operating system if it weren't for the news here. Now I don't want to go back more.
It does make stuff great. Even Microsoft is trying out Rust in their shit operating system because apparently 30% of all CVEs are related to, you guessed it, memory issues. And Rust will most likely solve them all.
Even the Linux kernel has Rust code in it now. If Rust was not of importance, why would the Linux kernel get rusty? Especially Linus Torvalds is very strict about these things.
Sure, bad code rewritten in Rust does not make it any better than it originally was.
Plus you get C-like speed with good syntax and memory safety, what more could you ask for?
GrayJay works great.
And it's not even limited to YouTube, there are lots of other platforms you can fill your feed with.
And also, you still can get your feed directly from YouTube, so recommendations are there and channel memberships also work.
You can't use YouTube likes and comments, but you can create a Polycentric identity, and like the videos or comment on it in that "decentralized" identity platform.
That seems like it's their problem. Should have written that recovery phrase in multiple places.
E2EE should be opt out for the normies who can't remember their passwords let alone write down their recovery phrases in multiple places.
Like, I bet my ass most of the people don't even have a complex master password. It's some band name with their date of birth appended at the end which barely reaches 16 characters probably with the lowest entropy possible for a 16 character password.
It's open source, has no ads by default, supports custom clients and is built with Rust which means it's very performant.
Sure, it lacks some features that are very useful like flairs. And the moderation tools could be improved.
Reddit's website is literally shit and bloated as fuck. While Lemmy is pretty minimalistic. Some UI improvements to make it more pretty could be made but it's fine to be honest.
