  • All you have to do is have a subsidiary corporation that the executives work for. They get paid whatever insane amount and the parent company hires the executive company so it's not direct payroll. I've seen this exact arrangement done for other tax reasons.

  • Years ago my dad was fed up with realtors and you couldn't list a property for sale without a realtor license. So he figured it's probably as easy as it seems, seeing how many airhead realtors he'd met. He was right. He read a book and then went and passed the exam to get licensed. Sold his own property himself and never used the license again.

  • I agree. Gas is hands down a better heat source if your primary method of cooking is to sauté and toss or are cooking in a wok. The flame is a tool you can work with. But for most home cooks, it doesn't make much difference. If you're just scooting stuff around with a spatula, a hot pan is a hot pan no matter how it got hot.

  • That's not how stopping terrorism works. Look at Afghanistan. The US spent 20 years trying to kill them off. For every one killed, 2 more got radicalized. It's almost like slaughtering them makes them hate the occupiers more, not less. The Taliban took back the whole country in a couple days after being occupied for 20 years. Stopping terrorism with violence doesn't work.

  • Their lawyers quietly let them know there's a rule prohibiting a candidate for speaker from winning if they're under federal indictment facing more than a year of jail time. "Better shut the fuck up about that before you get the reason this can't happen thrown in your face."

  • I've been in similar situations. It boils down to "You hired contractors to do this work because you don't have the skills internally." I cancelled a customer's quarterly release because they didn't hand over their requirements doc by the due date (after 2 months of prodding). The customer got really nasty with me. Got a call from my own VP after a few hours. He started to chew me out for not "working with them". I showed him the dozens of emails and several meetings I had with them being clear about their responsibilities and timelines. He just said "Oh... I'll talk to them." The call with the customer's PM the next day was hilarious. After he had chewed me out in front of 100+ of his people, he had to fall on his sword and take responsibility for messing up their release since it was his responsibility to manage their requirements and get them to me.

I know nobody cares, but it feels good to get that story out!

  • We're a global company making enterprise software. We have all the certifications including really nasty ones like FedRAMP and HIPAA combined. GDPR is a walk in the park comparatively. I'm well aware of the details and deal with compliance on a nearly daily basis. The only justification was "just to be safe", which is why they quickly acquiesced to storing the string "false" after pushback.

  • Dude, I had this exact conversation with our compliance team. They told me I couldn't write literally anything client-side unless the user agreed. They also insisted that I always show the cookie banner if there wasn't a cookie. Dumbest shit ever. Used the litany of user bug reports on day 1 to tell compliance to go fuck themselves.

  • Obviously anyone who hasn't evacuated is aligned with Hamas and is staying to fight. Obviously anyone running once the ground invasion starts is cowardly Hamas soldiers that are running away from the righteous power of god's chosen. Obviously some of the ones fleeing go away, so carpet bombing the rest of the territory we told Tom to go to is necessary to make sure this doesn't happen again.

    Big fucking /s

  • Yes, they are. My CEO sent out an email this morning about how he's saddened by "the attacks on Israel" and glad "all our Israeli employees are safe". He closed with "we stand with Israel". No mention of any sadness or fucks given for all the dead Palestinian civilians.

  • That's what he's doing here. If Democrats calls on MAGA to unite with the GOP, they can't do it or it'll look like they're following the Dems lead, and they must disagree with Dems at all costs. So by simply stating the obvious path forward for the extremists, he's poisoning the well and making it more difficult for that to actually happen.
