  • Getting baptized. Before then, I felt no spiritual connection or "heard the voice of god" or anything. I understood that once I was baptized, I'd be one of god's children and I assumed the holy stuff would kick in after that point. Funny thing though, nothing changed. No matter how hard I prayed or tried to believe, nothing was different.

I spent several years trying to find literally anything to show that any of it was real. But everything lead to the same dumbfounding dead end: you just have to have faith.

As I learned more about Christianity from a scholarly perspective, it became increasingly clear that it's not real. The oldest book in the new testament wasn't written until at least a hundred years after the events took place, meaning it was all disparate verbal stories for hundreds of years. The Council of Nicea later just decided to remove parts and add some new parts to the bible, justifying it by the council itself being divinely inspired to have arrived at the correct version of the bible.

It's clear now that the rich and powerful have historically used religion as a tool to control and manipulate the masses. With the benefit of hindsight, it's just an obvious scam that has no basis in reality. So for that reason, I'm out.

  • Maybe it'll be good, maybe it won't. But after the 400+ hours I spent in fo4, I'm willing to commit to another hour to see if the first episode is any good. I've spent longer than that hunting for literal trash in-game. :)

  • If you're a fallout fan, you're already on board. Our viewership is a given, and is theirs to lose. But for people who aren't big fans, having big names attached shows it's serious business. It's meant to convince people on the fence that it's worth an initial watch since there's money and names behind it so maybe it's not just "some dumb low budget video game shit."

  • It's good for general protection too. It can soften blows from other humans or just accidental injury while scavenging dilapidated buildings. What we consider to be minor bumps and scrapes now can be life threatening when you have inadequate medical supplies, malnutrition, sleep deprived, no sanitation, etc.

  • Gas is no longer in prime condition after 3-6 months, but is still combustible for at least a year or two. Old gas will damage your engine over time though. Most of the degradation is due to oxidization, so if the gas were in sealed cans, maybe it could last longer.

But yeah, 5+ years in and most gas is unlikely to work in an engine. You'd have to be making some kind of bio-ethanol at that point.

  • Don't sell them short; incel lifestyle is about so much more than (no) sex. I'd challenge you to find any incel posts that exhibit empathy or even a reasonable understanding of human interaction.

  • How is it not?

    ter·ror·ism

    noun

the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.

They're using the threat of violence, and sometimes using violence, to push their agenda of Israeli expansion into Palestinian territory.

  • The police are funded by taxpayers, so it doesn't matter if it's the city or the police that pay for it, you still foot the bill no matter what. The only solution where citizens don't lose is if cops are required to carry personal malpractice insurance, like doctors. IMO making cops personally liable for their murders is a good place to start.

  • It made you feel something. Now sit there quietly and think about why that is. What are you getting frustrated with? Why is it bothering you? Unfounded rage is trying to tell you something about yourself. There's a reason, but you have to be able to be honest with yourself to figure out what it is. Once you can begin to understand it, you can begin to find ways to manage it.

  • I've read that was actually a good strategy. She ruled that he absolutely did so an insurrection. Then she said the law doesn't apply because a weird easily reversible interpretation. So it's going to get appealed and easily reversed in a higher court based on a review of the law's inclusion of POTUS as an officer, not relitigating the insurrection part. She gets to skip the death threat phase for herself and alli oops this one for the higher court to slam dunk. I hope that's the case.

  • You're mad at the wrong thing. AI, when used ethically and responsibly, can increase a human's output in many tasks. This is a good thing and is how we advance as a society. AI does not hurt people. We're not talking about Skynet.

What does hurt people is when unethical companies exploit their workforce by capturing their increased output without also compensating them for producing that additional output. That's theft, and it has always happened whenever new tools are invented. But that theft isn't perpetrated by the tool; it's the employer that's at fault. This is why unions are so important.

  • I wouldn't call them bad artists for being outpaced by AI. No human can produce content by hand as fast as a computer. AI is just another tool in an extremely long list of tools that have changed how art is made.

If you go back far enough, I bet cavemen had arguments when someone invented the first brush and could paint all day long without bloodying their fingers scraping them against cave walls. Half joking there, but new and better tools are always being developed. Cameras are a great example of a new tool for art that made art a lot more accessible and affordable and we now accept as a normal artistic tool and not a threat. This attitude against AI will also pass over time.

  • You're not wrong, but shareholders look at their investment very differently than stockholders. Private shareholders can't necessarily cash out whenever they want because the sale of private equity is usually tightly controlled by the company. This means they need to be interested in long-term growth and success. While public stockholders can also hold their shares for a long time, there's much more ability and incentive to buy and sell quickly to make a quick profit.

Anecdotally, I worked for a publicly traded company for 6 years before they got bought and taken private by a private equity group. The way profitability and trends are measured is night and day. As a public company, everything was hyper focused on quarter by quarter results. One underperforming quarter meant a tank in stock prices, hiring freezes, and a general sentiment to the employees of "quit spending money on expenses if you want to have a job next quarter". Being controlled by private equity, they're most concerned with year over year growth and the long-term stability of our operations.

  • They cited their sources and included direct quotations from the bill. Are you saying any of their claims about what the bill says are untrue? It's good to have a healthy amount of skepticism, especially for groups with known biases, but what's your point in calling this out here?
