  • Yeah for sure, this is after all a record storm. That's the main cause probably.

  • I have never seen the city like this; I'm glad I'm not there rn. There are some rumours about how because the government sealed brick paths with glue following the protests the drainage is weaker, but idk how true that is

  • Just be in a flying plane at the exact same speed and acceleration so that in your reference frame it becomes easy

  • Fuck 'em. Let them die, and then we have less cars on the roads /j

  • If you could get a rubix cube or something at the airport, (which seems plausible) could be a lot of time spent on learning how to do it if you download instructions beforehand.

  • It should be a new election tbh. Even if that ends up being another Republican, it's the best way to do it. Elections in the US are for people, not parties — at least on paper.

  • I'd rather this as well, but we don't have that many choices. The slower we act and the more we let perfect be the enemy of good, the more people die.

  • To be specific, growing the types of trees we would want for such a thing in such an amount that it would deal with the problems we have, assuming we stop growth of CO2 and assuming we stop burning the Amazon, would take around a hundred years.

    https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/article/how-to-erase-100-years-carbon-emissions-plant-trees

"It could take more than a hundred years to add enough mature forest to get sufficient levels of carbon reduction. Meanwhile 40 billion tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) from burning fossil fuels are being added to the atmosphere every year, said Glen Peters, research director at Norway’s Center for International Climate Research."

And need an area the size of the United States. I wasn't joking about a second Amazon.

  • You need a lot, lot more trees. Like several orders of magnitude. And growing trees takes longer than even building a nuclear power plant.

  • You posted this 21 hours ago. I believe I answered you already.

  • That's only part of it though. This issue is almost as old as we have had similar image/facial recognition technologies. Data is where models get their conclusions from.

  • It's worked for me thus far idk. I think it's down to when world was having some more issues with staying up and stuff, so it should work decently? No clue, not a computer expert.

  • To the mods: you can fix this by repinning and re-unpinning the posts. Had to deal with this myself in other communities.

  • If you want to buy the land to plant a second Amazon, be my guest. And breathing does the exact opposite of what we want.

  • I never said we can't do also wind, solar, thermal, and hydro; in fact we have to do all of them. But, hydro isn't possible in most places (and also makes "a part of the world uninhabitable" too — look at how much the Three Gorges Dam displaced, for example), nor is geothermal. And wind and solar are inconsistent — great as part of it, but they can't be the entirety of the grid, unless you want the entire country to go dark on a cloudy day, cuz we simply can't make batteries store that much.
