  • I know there are a lot of innocent conscripted Russians who don't want to be there any more than I want them to be there.

Stuff like this makes it really easy to feel that's not true, like Russia is monolithic and evil.

They've committed and continue to commit so many atrocities. Something is deeply wrong there beyond just the megalomaniacal despot at the top.

  • This is the weird and wonderful of AI art I’ve signed up for.

All the little design choices, who gets halos, the bonus baby (evil twin brother plotline?), the wingless cherubs and the spaceship birds. It’s all there and more.

  • Meanwhile Ukraine is in the fight of their lives against a murderous despot. Why is there endless weapons for Israel to massacre civilians, but getting the equivalent to Ukraine’s national defense is somehow difficult.

  • It might be a new hope, but I couldn't imagine when or where I saw it.

I still remember my dad renting a vcr to watch empire strikes back. It was well after the release of the Return of the Jedi, but it was the first time we used a VCR.

My family wasn't poor, but money was tight and so we turned it into a huge home theater experience with lots of special foods and unlimited soda. The last half was basically non-stop terror for me and I loved every minute of it.

I remember being more surprised that Luke lost his hand than Darth Vader being his father. My little kid brain just figured, yeah, that makes sense; not a lot of other potential dad figures lying around.

  • It may feel like he's still getting away without consequence, but this is potentially the capstone experience for his entire life. Endless courtrooms, convictions and contempt.

It warms me to think how bad a year he's having. Here's to hoping next year is even worse for him.

  • Interesting. Everyone knows the real money in tax evasion, so robbing a bank seems like a step down for a sequel. Probably should have gone with Turnip Boy Commits Corporate Wage Theft.

    Maybe something for the future.

  • As a non-programmer who is nonetheless invested in the success of Godot, can anyone explain some of the highlights from this release?

I started reading the log and realized very quickly, I'm not the target audience and I don't know why it 'arrived in style'.

  • I may get downvoted for this, but I don't know that I fully agree.

Collateral damage implies there were valid military targets being struck.

I know Hamas doesn't exactly have bunkers and sandbags to shoot at, but the imagery coming out of Gaza looked a lot like an entire nation rolling up to a metaphorical bus stop and cutting loose.

There is nothing just about what Hamas is doing or did here, and I'm so tired of having to include this caveat. But using an entire military industrial complex to perpetrate the same acts on a horrific and unimaginable scale doesn't qualify as collateral damage.

  • What a wonderful image for sharing our deeply held passions with the people we care about most.

Fortunately for me, my wife is the bigger LotR nerd, so when it comes to the Silmarillion, this tends to be how she looks at me.
