I'm not even a machinist, I kinda wish I took that route. I came in as the lead assembler figuring I could prove my worth and "move up" into something better. Instead I became essential and am stuck lol
Seriously... I just look at indeed and want to strangle someone... How are like 85% of all jobs on there posting salaries that are barely good enough for a random store cashier...
Nope lol it's just how far you'd have to be to be able to afford to even live here. Long island is stupid expensive. I need to move, but I'm "uneducated" so I'm pretty much worthless lol
It's absurd lol my job was complaining they can't find anyone to work, yet they're offering $16/hr for machinists that would need to drive an hour just to get here... It's a joke
“if I’m at a point in which I think I’ve got nothing to lose, then why not take a wild risk to try to get to a better place?”
The problem I have with that is I know I can make things way worse rather than better by taking risks so I end up stuck where I am. I took a lesser risk a few years ago and thankfully only moved laterally, nothing really improved but at least I didn't make it worse.
I just need a "fuck it" attitude, but that's never been in my character. I'm more of a "worry about everything" person because "luck" is never on my side, I need to MAKE things happen or they never work out... If I don't have control over it, it fails. I really envy people that just seem to float through life, having everything work out as they wanted lol
As far as the suicide goes, I'm basically "not allowed" to. I'm thankful that I have family that care about me and would be crushed if anything happened to me. Plus I know I'll have to take care of my older brother when my parents are gone, so no matter how much I don't want to be here, I have to be.
As far as the cosmos goes, I'm one that tends to believe what we have is all we have, there is no "again."
Are you saying that Lemmy does have those algorithms? Because this shit is never boring lol so many instances I never wanted to see or know existed...
Slightly related: how many freaking instances of "yiff" shit do we need!? I couldn't believe I was STILL seeing it after I blocked like 7 separate instances lol
I knew it was that douchenozzle... I couldn't tell for sure, but of course he would say "Take the picture from the floor to make me look like a Real Man™." Lol
The problem is that you basically need to have those conversations about wages in an email otherwise the company will still fire you for it, but claim it was just about "poor performance" or "insubordination" so they can't get in trouble for it... Hell I could even see a corporation arguing that your email conversation about wages wasn't "professional use of email directly related to their work" so there's pretty much always a way for them to skirt that law :(
That shit makes me so angry it's crazy... Socialism for the corporations, "rugged individualism" for the citizens...
Republicans will scream and cry about socialism when we discuss healthcare, but gladly give corporations all the public money/wealth they could possibly want while also allowing them to charge us for the "product" they create...
It's the Vegeta hairline! I got mine at fucking 26... So now I just buzz my hair super short. I definitely miss being able to grow long hair and not look like I'm completely in denial lol
It's propaganda meant to put the stooges for the ultra wealthy in power so I wouldn't be surprised to see it elsewhere in the world. They have NO policies other than "cut expenditures for the wealthy" (taxes, regulations, etc) so they have to use propaganda outlets to foment a culture war that they can then "fight for you" to get your vote.
I do have hard feelings for those that succumb to the propaganda as they have to want some of these hateful things, but I REALLY LOATHE the propagandists. There is no word in the English language that properly conveys just how much hatred I have for them, people like Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson. I don't like to wish death on anyone, but god would the world be a better place without them and people like them.
This is pretty much it for every culture war bullshit flavor of the year. Republicans can't win on policy because their REAL policies that they actually want are just "more money for ultra wealthy." That's it. That's the whole Republican agenda, more money for the ultra wealthy by cutting taxes and cutting OUR entitlements so the country can afford to not tax the wealthy. More money for the wealthy by cutting regulations that PROTECT US. More money for the wealthy by allowing mergers, monopolies, etc...
They need people to vote for them so they find a topic to have their propaganda outlets focus on and suddenly it seems "organic" when in reality the people are being manipulated to all be mad at the same thing at the same time. it's sad and hilarious that they also consider themselves "free thinkers."
"Tell massive heartless corporation to not make every single penny possible!"
Corporation: "We must say with a heavy heart that we've lost our communications department. They all died of hysterical laughter after receiving a request to put people over profit."
The labor laws are so insanely vague here in NY that it literally says "all factories must maintain a reasonable temperature and humidity." They then never define what that is and my representatives won't answer when asked what it is...
It gets over 90°F and 90% humidity frequently in here... Literal sweatshop lol
"Give your workers what they need and their families benefit too."
This implies that they care about what your family or what you need. Every business exists for the sole purpose of extracting money from something, they do EVERYTHING in their power to pay you the LEAST amount possible. All they want are meat machines that can make decisions, press the correct buttons, lift the heavy thing and listen to commands all as cheaply as possible.
It's pretty bad where I work, if you don't fight for a raise you never get one. I have coworkers who have a hard time speaking up (some don't even speak fluent English) and they've never gotten a raise in the 6 years I've known them because they never ask and the boss is more than happy to not have to spend a single dime more.
Being uneducated doesn't help either, I'm considered as valuable as the decayed dog droppings Mr.Dogwalker never picked up. Some might even argue the droppings are actually contributing resources back to the environment which is more valuable than my uneducated ass. But hey, my boss owns a helicopter so that's nice.
