  • The article is a bit misleading as it's only comparing presidential campaign amounts, and Biden is only $2 million behind Trump ($20mil to $22mil), but combined with the Democratic Party accounts, he's at $77 million. Trump still has to face a contested primary, Biden is unlikely to face any serious challengers.

What's more interesting to me is that Trump has pulled in less than half of what he had at this point in the election cycle last time around ($56mil). This clearly indicates that the major GOP donors have pulled their support, at least until he wins the primary. While it's unlikely that money will flow to Democrats, I think it indicates a willingness on their part to sit out this cycle until the GOP gets its finances in order. No one likes being ripped off.

  • No. Just no. I prefer to think happy thoughts, thank you very much.

  • Chucklefuck is getting hot over here in California. Perfectly describes that certain segment of the population that likes to chuckle while they try to fuck you over.

  • I feel you. I don't think it's hopeless, but I do think we're in for a rough ride. That being said, I actually have a lot of faith in the upcoming generation. I think that if they get angry enough, they have the potential to arrest what's happening and even turn it around given how well they work together. Greta gets a lot of hate, but hell, I haven't seen someone make as successful a series of environmental stands since Julia Butterfly. If her generation keeps showing that fire, I think there's still hope for humans to live in harmony with the earth.

  • Seriously this - @ernest has done a fucking incredible job. This software is flat-out amazing from a publisher's or author's perspective. It really encourages quality submissions as well, and the community is extremely positive.

  • It's not necessarily unethical, but it's usually a waste of time. Kinda like Twitter.

  • Yeah, it's definitely going to be bad this year. The big rainstorms we got this winter caused a lot of growth, and anything east of the Bay Area is already dry up here in the north - had a couple of small local blazes already. The one saving grace is that we lucked out on cooler weather and late rain, but it's clear that our luck at climate roulette is beginning to turn.

  • You know what's really weird? RFK supported Sirhan Sirhan's release - went against his entire family to do so too. I think the guy has some dark daddy issues.

  • Keep calling out this deranged motherfucker. He's responsible for countless deaths:

During the pandemic, Kennedy has become a near-ubiquitous source of false information about COVID-19 and vaccines. Earlier this year, Kennedy was named one of the “Disinformation Dozen” by the Center for Countering Digital Hate, which says he and the Children’s Health Defense website are among the top spreaders of false information about vaccines online.

....note that the Children's Heath Defense organization is Kennedy's personal charity, and...

The AP found links to Children’s Health Defense articles all over Facebook. While many were shared as posts on the pages of fellow anti-vaccine activists, many more could be found in the comments sections on pages that people turn to for reliable information, including official government Facebook pages in all 50 states, and in health departments in nearly every state.
“The vaccine was not created to save us all from a pandemic. The pandemic was created to get us to take the vaccine and more,” one person wrote in February below a North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Facebook post.
Then, they linked to a January Children’s Health Defense article that claimed 329 deaths following the COVID-19 shot had been reported to VAERS, a federal vaccine safety surveillance system that has been misused by anti-vaccine activists.
“Every Friday, the true American hero Robert F Kennedy Jr. pulls the data from the VAERS report. Here is the latest up until 1/22,” the commenter wrote. Another user replied that the comment had been reported for dishonesty, but it was still up 10 months later.

    ...as a result:

Since January, Children’s Health Defense’s COVID-19 vaccine-related posts were shared more frequently on Twitter than links to vaccine content on mainstream sites including CNN, Fox News, NPR and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Indiana University’s Observatory on Social Media, which tracks COVID-19 vaccine-related content on Twitter. In some weeks, it found, CHD COVID-19 vaccine content was shared more often than that of The New York Times and The Washington Post.

  • Important news, but they gotta start proofreading their articles better:

The city of Phoenix, which has been experiencing temperatures above 109.4F (43C) for 17 days in a row, was granted some modest reprieve on Sunday by a thick cloud cover, which was expected to keep the temperature around 115F (46.1C).

I'm not seeing how an increase from 109 to 115 degrees is a reprieve.

  • Holy shit that's awesome - bookmarked. Thanks!

  • I saw this in the theaters when it came out. It was a huge breakout role for Ford at the time, who had been kinda locked into Indiana Solo roles previously. It was also the beginning of Tommy Lee Jones getting attention from a larger audience - a lot of the roles he was cast in afterwards were because of his performance in the Fugitive.

Great movie, tight script, and probably Ford's best performance of his career when it comes to acting quality. Glad to see it's got a following - thanks!

  • No Komodo? No crocodile? No iguana?

I'm sadly disappointed, but you've got my upvote anyway.

  • Not a whole lot (4 communities, 7 people, 3 domains), but posting to mention that if you're on kbin.social, you can block by domain like so:

    https://kbin.social/d/facebook.com

Block button is on the right in the domain information panel.

Not sure if Lemmy has this feature yet.

  • Just came here to declare my belief that Texas Style Bronto BBQ would be fucking delicious, and the Jurassic Park movies missed a rare opportunity to dive into the delights of discovering prehistoric cuisine.

  • Holy shit dude - you just made an automated radio station - pretty damn cool. Question for you, because you got my creative curiosity going and it looks like you've got the tech chops to answer - how difficult would it be to serve it up on a public web interface as a pirate radio station?
