One of my recent characters was your classic racist greedy dwarf. But it was her greed that knew no bounds so the racism part rarely came up because why would they be an asshole to a bunch of adventurers helping them get rich beyond imagining? Why would they be an asshole to the people giving them a ton of money for running around to save the world? It mostly manifested when we'd get minor encounters and I'd suggest we have better things to do than help out these elf randos, or during combat I'd be on top of healing any dwarves but drag my feet just a little for other people. It's important that your character flaws still function within a group and that you're not using them as an excuse to force solo play or excuse being a dick irl
I'm an engineer who has done game dev work; we are not immune to being abused by the owning class. In the tech industry right now finding a new job isnt great when everywhere is firing, and not everyone is in a position to switch jobs (like me I can't risk destabilizing my insurance right now so I'm locked in for at least 6 more months). More unions gives all unions stronger voice and tech workers could have a lot of sway and funds to put toward the class war if they'd stop thinking of themselves as above working class concerns. My work just spent the last few years making rock stupid decisions and everyone at the company knew it except for the execs, and when the axe came down the engineers and other workers here paid the price. The game industry is renowned for abusing workers in basically every way and I experienced a lot of that myself. Unions could fight against crunch time, get better pay and benefits for game devs, help keep studios from mass firing people after a game ships, etc.
I'm glad that you've got yours but me and a bunch of the people around me are in perpetual fear of being fired on a whim among so many other things and we have no voice in it. I do not trust corporate to do well for me and I don't get any say by myself.
I never connected the observations but yeah I don't know anyone in the area who goes to church even there are a surprising number of them around. It's also pretty rare for me to see people entering or exiting a church at all whereas places I used to live would often have people around them. I wonder what the age demographic of the church goers is locally?
I'm trans and I actually do carry a copy of my birth cert sometimes. If I don't know how a certain area is going to react to me I bring it because I've had my gender marker changed. Fortunately never been in a situation where I've needed to show it to anyone but yeah the concern is real
