  • Just because people use display names for that doesn't mean display names are a good place to indicate pronouns, and it especially doesn't mean that having a client use usernames is alienating anyone who currently puts non-name data in a name field.

I'd much rather there be a dedicated field where it can be treated with the importance it deserves and not just lumped in with other miscellany as a kludge.

  • Some dishwashers do get hot enough, having options specifically for sanitizing during a cycle. It's essentially Pasteurization which factors in not just temperature, but also time. While flash Pasteurization requires high temperature, longer times at lower temperatures can effectively kill harmful microorganisms.

  • What if you want to listen to your own playlist or podcast, but also wouldn't mind conversing should the opportunity arise?

I don't agree that headphones should automatically include antisocial implications.

  • Defederation means they consume all of the data from ActivityPub, you consume none of theirs.

    It's not that simple.

Their instance will be sent the data only if the post originates on an instance/community that is still federated with their instance. If a new post or comment is made in a community who's instance isn't federated with their instance, it will not be sent via ActivityPub. A more detailed explanation of how that works is in this post.

  • got the firearm they used from a family member or a relative

    and

obtained weapons from friends or acquaintances

does not imply those people legally owned the gun already.

I would expect that households who raise children to think violence is acceptable are more likely to disregard the laws.

  • Yes, but it wouldn't be accurate to say the entire device is. There are multiple pieces of software that are in use on modern Android phones, and some are under copyleft licenses while some pieces are proprietary. https://opensource.samsung.com

  • as we know bandwidth is extremely expensive

No. You very obviously don't know how bandwidth is handled for large providers. They don't pay per gb, and instead have peering agreements with other networks. Google generally doesn't have to pay these other networks, as Google has the web applications that the other networks' customers expect to be able to use.

  • I disagree. That was BC. It'd be like saying people born in the 1930s relate more to colonial times than today. There are some of them who are still alive. While a percentage want nothing to do with modern ways, I think the type to be involved in forming a nation would be lifelong learners akin to the old folks who have little trouble with today's modernities.

  • Oh, I obviously interpreted that as meaning a hard disk drive (which SSDs are still commonly referred to as HDDs) since we were discussing modern PCs. Many years ago external physical file transfer mostly transitied away from using actual spinning disks to USB storage, and even that has been mostly supplanted by network connected storage for several years.
