I think the Romans would have been insulted by the implication that they weren't very good at torturing (a particularly unwise way to insult them) but the point still stands because the Romans tortured a lot of other people too, including the two men being crucified next to Jesus.

Ah, I see now. Elon Musk intended to tell some bad puns at the inauguration but then he accidentally did a couple of Nazi salutes instead. Puns are so easy to mix up with other things, which is why now he's mixing up puns and an apology. It's a mistake that anyone could make.

I was surprisingly old (about 10 or 11) before I understood on an emotional level that "everybody dies" meant that the people I cared about would die. Before that time, I could have logically reasoned that these people were a part of "everyone" but I still felt like they would live forever.

I wouldn't use an instance on which support for this killing was official policy, but I can respect the decision of an instance admin to permit expressions of support (and of opposition) out of a commitment to facilitating free speech, as long as lotrmemes itself is not a place where such expressions are allowed. I would rather not see any sort of divisive real-world issues discussed in this particular community.

Although the Supreme Court's opinion stated that a pardon carries "an imputation of guilt and acceptance of a confession of it," this was part of the Court's dictum for the case. Whether the acceptance of a pardon constitutes an admission of guilt by the recipient is disputed. In Lorance v. Commandant, USDB (2021) the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that "there is no confession and Lorance does not otherwise lose his right to petition for habeas corpus relief for his court-martial conviction and sentence.

That's from the Wikipedia article about the case you're referring to. Note that a dictum from the Supreme Court is influential but not binding as a precedent.

However, that case has to do with a preemptive pardon for a crime that the recipient had not yet been accused of. Pardons for a crime that the recipient is currently being punished for may be different. (If the government wants to remove you from prison, can you refuse to leave?) So may pardons for a crime for which the recipient has already completed his punishment.

I learned recently that Americans do in fact have the right to refuse a pardon.

Trump appears to have pushed Netanyahu to agree to a ceasefire, which Biden failed to do. I wouldn't be surprised if the delivery of these bombs was part of the backroom deal between Trump and Netanyahu which led to the ceasefire.

I don't know what will happen after this ceasefire expires, but until then it's a little early for those who criticized Biden's policy on Israel to criticize Trump's.

An interesting thing about atoms is that all atoms of the same isotope are fundamentally identical. In other words, they're not just the same as far as we can tell. They are absolutely the same.
