  • It's more accurate to call it a tax on desperation I think.

  • I distinctively remember it. Person is blue, stars are gold. Some versions of the logo had a gold band over the person.

I'm fairly sure I've seen it recently, likely at a department store.

  • Not phones, but TVs. My first flatscreen tv(not a smart tv yet) had a picture in picture mode, so I could play games while my family watched TV. That was nice, but it seems to have just vanished as a feature in modern TVs.

  • It's funny you say that, because "the trots" means diarrhoea in many English countries. So.. Might be worse.

  • I like Mastodon and all, but I'm never going to call a Mastodon post a "toot." It's a terrible name for a post.

  • Looney Tunes: Back in Action barely scraped in at 57%.

I unironically love the entire movie.

  • I feel like that'd be extremely boring, tbh. Constant uptime.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaa

    I am cold.

  • Pineapple and jalapenos on pizza is an A++ combination, if you've never tried that.

  • If Brave redirecting users to use their affiliate links without consent didn't make people stop using it, I doubt this will.

  • I've always thought this quote was silly, because the first one is obviously better.

Paarthurnax did atrocities. Plural. If he were born good, less people would have died horribly, which is better all around.

  • Further update for anyone who saw my previous posts:

I haven't gotten the message telling me I've been accepted, but my payment in my Centrelink online account has swapped to Disability Support Pension. This is such a huge load off my shoulders. I finally made it.

Payment schedule is odd, my "last payment" listed says 13th of July, but I received my $33 telephone allowance just after midnight tonight, which is odd since that was meant to arrive tomorrow. My first listed payment(the 13th of July "last payment" one) also has reduced pension payment but 3x the rent assistance and pension supplement on it. Very weird.

Still have to wait on Centrelink's letter to see if I have any mutual obligations, but I'm so happy. I think I'll get some backpay to my claim date, but some people have said online that they only backpay if the claim took over 6 months, or had to be appealed. So I'm not sure. Still. Happy.

  • Yep. I was born 1998. To Millennials, I'm a tiny baby Gen Z, to Gen Zs, I may as well be a boomer. It's odd.

Growing up poor confuses things even more, because I have more in common with people born late 80s/early 90s than with people born only a few years after me. My first game console was a SNES and we had a VCR until we got a PS2, and kept using it well after.

  • I'm not opposed to ways for people paying out of their own pocket to host to get some funds to help cover that, but I worry it'll never be well implemented.

I think a good first step would be a default and built in way for server admins to add a small donations banner listing the hosting costs of their instances. That also does have issues though, of course. The person hosting is definitely putting in the most money, but other moderators and admins are contributing labour too.

It's a tough subject, and many solutions would be rife with abuse. Shit sucks.

  • The late 90s Gen Z/Millennial DMZ is a painful place to exist. Constant and mandatory tech support.

  • Update from my post yesterday about the disability medical assessment I had for my disability claim, for anyone that saw that.

Had the appointment. The assessor was nice, I was so nervous I was stuttering. I don't even have a stutter, so that was weird. Took all of 10-15 minutes and I was exhausted after.

Now I just wait I guess. The estimated completion time is 4th of August, so if it takes that long I think I'll get around $2k in backpay, which is enough to pay off two of my debts and get things back on track(do they still backpay the difference in payment for people currently on jobseeker? Actually unsure on that.)

The suspense is killing me. I should just avoid thinking about it, but that extra $400ish a fortnight would be life changing. And not having to make myself bedridden going to disability employment services appointments every other week.

Minecraft has been a good distraction. Been digging big holes to calm down. There's something Zen about it. Except that I keep burrowing in to giant cave systems and having to explore them for loot and glory, which is less relaxing.

  • That's what I've heard. But I also have a friend who was rejected at this stage due to the "not fully diagnosed, treated, and stablized" thing. That has changed to reasonably treated now I guess, so maybe that won't be an issue.

  • I quite enjoyed On the Beach (1957). It's post apocalyptic, set heavily in Melbourne following a nuclear war.

Author is British though, but he wrote it after moving to Australia.

  • Sonic Health appointment for my Disability Support Pension application is on Monday.

I know it's not a common point of failure but I've been dreading it since they booked it. What if I fuck it up? The dread is problematic. Haven't been able to focus on anything. Just want it to be over and done with. Even a rejection before this step would have been easier.
