  • Frankly, it'skind of the opposite: the slavery part of the argument is obvious, simply because IIRC the model of chattel slavery the US south operated on was only viable through the constant flow of new people to feed into the meatgrinder. The "better off" part is kinda dubious.

  • Oh, that's as expected. What's interesting, though, is the same exact argument pattern to other recent debacles. Like, "How dare TikTok/Progressives/Arabs side against us? Could it be they resent that we openly despise them and very recently fucked them over? No, that never happened, also Trump did it too! The only possible explanation for their hostility is that they're ontologically evil, and we therefore have no choice but to continue openly despising them and trying to fuck them over!" Like, if this were a book, it would be panned for it's heavy-handed hubris allegory.

  • There's always the worst possible option: they're true believers. They genuinely believe the rest of the world is freeloading on the US, and that (atlas) shrugging them off will make everyone else collapse.
