  • I used to have that every day of the week. Anxiety attacks were my alarm clock, typically 2 hours before I needed to be up with no chance of getting back to sleep. I stuck it out for 2 years.

Now when I start getting that I make note. If it continues for more than a few months, I quit. (I’ve never been stable even when I took shit, so what difference does it make?)

It’s not stable, but nothing about the present system is stable, and I’d rather be unstable on my terms than theirs.

  • Well… yeah I mean the first remake was available on ps+ within 6 months after it released.. why would you take that burn and then buy the next one?

  • I have a hideous lamp that I hate that’s worth about a grand. It doesn’t look like it’s worth that much, just a heavy brass base and reverse painted landscape shade.. but all antique and sought after.

My cats are probably going to break it so I should sell it but it was the last lamp my mom refurbished before she died (why it didn’t get sold and I got it in the first place)

I also have a brass fairy floor lamp that, with no shade, is worth about $1500, but that one looks valuable, and is very rare (and super cool)

  • I did a factory reset on my Roku several months ago and it works more or less like it would normally. Can’t set themes, which is the only big lack, but most of the important settings are still available. I know I can change the inputs and settings and stuff on it, though, because the hdmi1 is classed to PlayStation and 4 to computer.

I just did a factory reset and never connected to the internet. You can’t disconnect it from the internet without a reset, tho, or you’ll get “not connected” messages frequently, which I assume is what you are talking about.

  • If copilot gave you the same one do you think it’s biased because 9/11 involves planes? 🤭

  • If you order something without an active prime membership, it shows the long delivery time, like a week or whatever.

If you then subscribe to prime before it ships, like the next day or something, it will update your shipping to the prime 2 day window. And will be delivered within that window.

It’s all entirely artificial. I’ve done this several times and it always works that way (small order of needed items, then realize I have the free trial again so sign up and order whatever else I’ve been needing and putting off). Fuck Amazon.

  • The tragedy of the commons is all capitalist nonsense from the 60s anyway. People are quite good at balancing resources within their communities, and sharing spaces and resources makes everyone’s experiences better. It’s only with the “profit at others expense” capitalist mindset that the cooperative model falls apart.

    https://aeon.co/essays/the-tragedy-of-the-commons-is-a-false-and-dangerous-myth

The few will always ruin it for the many where capitalism is involved. It’s inevitable.

But it’s not the few you think it is. It’s not normal people just trying to get by, it’s the people who set it up this way in the first place. They know not everyone will stop. It’s squarely on them.

  • Stable diffusion online version, several weeks ago. Might not be the same situation anymore, idk how often that stuff gets updated, and I’m not able to test it at the moment.

It’s also possible that some sort of “sticky idea” got into its head and made it start generating it that way after it did one like that. I’ve heard that sort of thing isn’t uncommon.

  • Significant racist bias is an understatement.

I asked a generator to make me a “queen monkey in a purple gown sitting on a throne” and I got maybe two pictures of actual monkeys. I even tried rewording it several times to be a real monkey, described the hair and everything.

The rest were all women of color.

Very disturbing. Pretty ladies, but very racist.

  • Meat is actually much much easier to break down than plant material. It’s mostly soft-walled structures, where plants have hard cell walls that need to be broken down with special processes to get the goodies out.

As a result, plant material requires multiple processing steps (chewing cud like cows and other ruminant animals, consuming first-pass fecal matter like rabbits, etc.), and then basically ferments using bacteria to break down the cell walls, so they have special adaptations to accommodate all that extra processing, like the multi-chamber stomachs, large cecum, etc.

Meat, on the other hand, is relatively simple to break down, so obligate carnivores actually have much shorter, simpler, intestinal paths. Omnivores are, as you might expect, in between, with digestive systems more complex and longer than carnivores, but shorter and simpler than herbivores.

Thus, nearly every animal is capable of digesting meat (all, afaik, but I’m not certain so I’ll stick with this), but not every animal is capable of digesting plants.

Here’s some fun links with more info :)

Edit to fix second link. Whoops.

  • There is an argument to be made that there’s a public security interest to encrypt some traffic, like when they call in someone’s information to run a check on them. And I think that’s a legit concern.

There are some fully encrypted systems (which cops want), and there are some hybrid systems, which are more expensive but would keep transparency in place for the population. Those systems work a variety of ways, such as putting the live comms on a 30-minute delay when there’s a big incident, and fully blocking personal information from citizens.

I think the latter is what they should be using, with very very very specific and clear rules on when they can and cannot encrypt, with regular external audits of the encrypted portion to verify no misuse. But if they won’t go hybrid and submit to inspection, leave it wide open. It’s more important that we have transparency (at this moment in time, due to police behavior), which is a thing I really really hate to say but it’s true..

  • But that’s not what would happen because the people who can’t afford to live there are mostly the people who make society function.

You can’t have a working city without the people at the bottom. So what you are proposing is that the city should collapse.

Rather than, you know… just making sure people can afford to live there instead..

  • So wait, is anyone supposed to be left there other than the few well off people who can already afford it comfortably??

How do you expect that not to immediately collapse?

  • rude

    Jump
  • Avoiding swearing isn’t even that important in most human-human interactions, so meh.

Fragile snowflake ai being all on the pc…

  • I’m totally down to be in Canadian occupied territory, as long as they bring their healthcare and bagged milk stays. I’ll even start to say “eh?”. I already apologize too much and like hockey, so.. how bad could it be, eh?

  • If I can pay a single reasonable fee and have access to literally everything, I do.

If I could do that without having to go through the effort of finding everything myself, I would absolutely pay for that. I used to stream because it was better. I can’t afford that now though, and not everything is even available.

  • Oh, heh, my bad. There’s a lot of people who don’t seem to watch/like voyager, so wasn’t sure if you’d seen it. Very convincing. 10/10.

  • The doctor in voyager is holographic, he says much the same about being amazing. :) The sickbay in voyager is equipped with holo emitters, and he’s an emergency medical hologram who outgrows his programming much like Data.

But his matrix is too large for the ship to manage multiple copies of his program, or something.. or maybe just the sickbay computers.. either way, they could probably easily generate drones to do specific tasks with high precision. Also has the perk of choosing his own density, so they use him for security threats a lot. Also can’t get sick.

Tho he does have interpersonal relationships with his crew mates and thus drama, so that’s not actually a point in hologram favor ;)
