  • Yes.

That's why doctors and medical researchers are constantly trying to develop new antibiotics. Infections are scary and for decades getting killed by one was basically unheard of for healthy people in the developed world.

  • Sure, but it is coincidence.

If there was a way to give someone pneumonia that was guaranteed to develop into a more serious infection just about every spy agency would be bumping people off left, right, and center with it.

  • Bad capitalists, yes. The trend of "maximize profit this quarter at the expense of everything else" is a recent (meaning a few decades old) idea.

Once upon a time the boards of publicly traded companies could think long term and sacrifice short term gains without getting fired by shareholders. When a large firm prioritizes long term success efficiency still matters but so do things like building reputation through quality and retaining talent - the things sorely missing from publicly traded firms today.

  • Just to nip the inevitable deluge of "I don't trust an Israeli news source" comments in the bud, here's an article from the Navy Times that cited statements by American and UN sources stating the attack took place. No casualties were reported by said US and UN sources.

At the time of this comment the article states that no group or organization has taken responsibility for the mortar attack.

  • There's something in the world of intelligence called the "useful idiot". It's basically someone who drinks the Kool aid you're selling and unwittingly works for your agency/country/organization.

Don't overestimate the wisdom of the average Joe of the Western world.
