That's brutal, and I'm very sorry to hear that. No one should have to struggle to find help, especially for stuff like that.
I think this whole system is stupid, even from a business sense. If you want quality labour, "happy employees" are the way to go. If you prevent people from getting much wanted/needed help, you'll have a lot less of those "happy employees". You'll also have fewer taxes being paid, less money being spent, fewer people attending events and buying non-essential things, etc. The current set-up makes no sense to me. Instead of imporving anything, let's just keep continuing to make things worse and then complain that society is getting worse. That will totally fix things. It hasn't worked for the past couple of decades, but it will totally magically change tomorrow. Assholes.
I hope things get much better for you and your father soon. Y'all deserve MUCH better than this.
That would help solve the plastic quantity problem, but we should also probably find a way to filter all of the forever chemicals from reaching the air.
Some of those chemicals can do pretty nasty things in high quantities or when repeatedly consumed over a long period of time.
It also partially excludes those who don't earn a lot, at least where I live (Ontario, Canada).
You earn around 30k a year? Hey, you get some benefits! Two people earning 50k a year? Well, obviously you don't need those benefits anymore. In fact, let's cut your collective returns down by a nice $342.
Nothing changes if you're just roommates, but they sometimes really want to verify that you're not secretly common-law. You can get in legal trouble if you get caught.
It was kind of messed up the first year that my partner and I filed taxes together, to be honest. We couldn't do that until we were living together for 2 years (federal government), and 3 years (provincial government).
They didn't tell us to both save the entire previous year's GST, and it ended with us having to pay between $500 and $700. That was a fun birthday suprise. The bad parts of common-law start before any of the benefits, apparently. They also seem to start before you can legally file. I tell everyone who I know is moving in with a partner, because fuck that noise. I wish someone told us earlier. Anyone, really.
Sometimes it's almost like people see Israel or Hamas as their favorite sports team. As if anything they do is morally correct, just because "their team" did it.
I can't get over how fucking terrible this is for everyone who is trapped there, due to absolutely no fault of their own. Even literal babies are dying.
Before anyone says "they were voted in"; sure. They were voted in many years ago. However, a large part of the population over there was way too young to vote at the time.
It's sick that some deem other people's lives as worthless, just because of location.
I can't even begin to imagine the grief, loss, and suffering that's happening to so many people. Any one of us could have easily been there too, it's not like we can just pick where we're born. You don't work hard to pick a country of origin, you get what you get. Those innocent civilians are no more deserving of death than anyone else on earth. It's sad that I half expect someone to reply and try to explain why murdering children is ok.
I don't care if it's Israel, Hamas, or the freaking Easter bunny. Murder is murder. War crimes are still war crimes. Those children are still dead.
For real, though. I was raised Catholic, and a big part of the belief was that the devil would try to sway you away from God's teachings. That the devil would use trickery and temptation to lure people into evil, and would turn us against eachother. I was taught that it would even turn parents against their own children. (Sound familiar?)
Mind you, I was lucky in the sense that the community I grew up in actually followed the "love thy neighbor" stuff, so my experience is probably anecdotal.
It's at the point where I'm not sure any of them would believe Jesus if he ever hypothetically returned. They would probably just explain it away with conspiracy theories and blame someone else if they were ever questioned on it.
It's almost funny how many religious people seem to think saying a few prayers on the death bed will absolve all of their sins. A huge part of that forgiveness is repentance/regret for misdeeds. How do they think an all knowing God would somehow not see through their ruse? It just doesn't make sense to me.
I don't understand people who do that, to be honest.
They have repeatedly lied to their own citizens about health and safety. There are multiple channels dedicated to talking about the superfund sites within the US. Most of the time, the people who lived in these horribly toxic areas were lied to by the government, and were told that they were safe. It has led to a large number of injuries, deaths, and deformities. The government regularly refused to acknowledge the harm until it was way to late to stop the people from being afflicted. I would never fully trust someone who allowed children to play in lead dust, and I especially wouldn't trust someone who told them it was safe to do so.
I know my country's government wouldn't be much better to trust at face value, realistically. So, I don't.
Historically, blindly trusting a government can turn out very badly. The people in office are human, so it only makes sense that some of them may be corrupt.
I didn't take it literally lol. I was just stating my experience in response to someone else's comment. If I see "1000" and "10" in the parent comment, I'm probably going to use "1000" and "10". It would feel weird if I threw in random new numbers, I guess.
To me, all of this is more of a "you do you" thing. I'm sorry if I made it seem like I was angry or upset with you. I actually think that it's cool that both are options, honestly. Freedom of choice, and all that.
Also, what if you genuinely love a lot of music? We do exist.
I would feel drastically unfulfilled music-wise, if I only had around 10 songs to choose from. I listen to music way too often for that. I would absolutely start to get bored of the same songs after a bit. That's only about one album's worth.
For me personally, using a music subscription service just makes sense right now. I am very busy, so I don't have time to pirate everything anymore. I'm not saying that I wouldn't do it again if push came to shove, but I'm not at that point.
I like that I don't have to worry about things being hidden in the files. I like that I don't have to worry about suspicious websites. I like that almost everything that I want to listen to is right there, in the same place. I like that it comes with a music player. It might not be the absolute best sound quality out there, but I also don't have to sort through a ton of apps to find an app that works.
Fuckin' aholes are also still hitting new profit records. They can cry me a river.
Their company wouldn't exist without the hard workers, as there would be nothing to sell.
In case someone relevant sees this, this might be a great way for Ford's competitors to rope in skilled, experienced employees. I'm sure that many employees are thinking about other places after seeing this "call to end the strike". I know I would be.
What an embarrassing thing to say to your staff. What an embarrassing thing to say publicly. These people must be more detached from reality than I thought.
Unless these things in the US seriously changes, I will never step foot there. I used to want to see all of the beautiful landscapes, animals, and buildings. I really did. Now, not so much.
If I have a medical emergency, I don't want to be somewhere where they'll delay necessary life saving treatment to first check if there might be a fetus.
Nope. Tbh, that also kind of sounds very similar to the things that they get angry at other countries for doing to women.
That's brutal, and I'm very sorry to hear that. No one should have to struggle to find help, especially for stuff like that.
