  • The first thing I'd recommend is try to figure out which genre to play first. I think cyberpunk is way different from DND which is also has different rules than pathfinder. Warhammer 40k is also a. Tabletop game that is more combat oriented and no role playing.

Starting a new group could be hard. Some games shops have play areas for people and I guess they sort of rent space to regular and adhoc groups. I know of three shops which not only sell games, but are setup for people to play there on a Thurs night etc. repeat sales of drinks and may a small charge for the table and game sets could be used from a communal library.

Some games are role playing heavy and others are combat focused. In some groups the DM is always the DM but in others they take turns. There might be a long campaign where the players control the same character from novice to expert/demigod or one shots could be used to fill in some nights, eg dm might be a teacher and one shots are run on school holiday weeks if the group meets.

I would say the trick is to find a group that's in the same page as you. This can be assisted by having a :Session zero where players meet and discuss what they want from the game so that someone who wants to play a more role playing game and want to actually try and talk their way out of being robbed by bandits instead of 'rolk a d20. 3, everyone draws weapons and combat begins'.

The aim would be that everyone at the table looks forward to sessions and has fun, and as for rules there's always 'the rule of cool'. Where the DM can ignore what's in the book if it fits with what the players expect. Players jumping off a cliff to escape a fight might not necessarily die from fall damage if it fits the story line, however if a player is about to do something overly careless, the DM might ask the question ' are you sure you want to do that?' and the correct thing to do is stop and reconsider as that phrase is usually a warning of the character will probably die if you do.

  • Thanks for the link, that's pretty much what I was thinking of, but I remember reading at 'the other place' about downstream creators being upset about features of a new license (open gaming license?) that could have insisted on a cut of revenue from 3rd party packages, so wizards published a copy of their handbook under an open license. I was meant to read it cover to cover one day, but that day hasn't arrived. hope OP gets the chance to though.

  • I feel communities can be put in 3 categories.

    1. Everything here is safe for work
    2. Things here are not safe for work, e.g. adult communities. There might be a bit of safe for work, but anyone browsing it knows what to expect
    3. The third is a combination. It might have a community rule that anything NSFW is tagged as such. With my browsing setup I have to click on NSFW posts to reveal them.

I'd have a look around for an art sharing community. I think theres one on world and they might allow NSFW content and people would be more likely to give you relevant feedback.

  • Does this mean we get the Aelesian variant of chess? Does it come with a new map? Do the pawns just turn into war towers with enough time or do they have to use the horsey's and chop down trees. What if you can get in before reinforcements arrive, is there a bonus? Been waiting for that for a while now....

Perhaps we are not yet ready to fully understand caesar

  • My default is hot for subscribed, although i should also try scaled to show smaller communities.

And if I hit posts I recently browsed, I changed it up to Top 12 hours or top of day for all to see some 'newer' things.

I wasn't sure early on but found those worked well for me.

  • That could happen with propellors that have Constant Speet Units. (Propellor pitch is able to be changed) The act is called 'feathering' . This can happen on multi engine aircraft and reduce the drag of the side with the failed engine. Cheaper propellors are fixed pitch and no means exist to change them. (I believe some propellor are able to have their pitch changed by a maintainer on the ground so the aircraft can be optimized for climbing, cruising or a combination of both)

'Reverse Thrust' is also possible in so e Other aircraft. the blade reverses to the point where it pushes the wrong way so the engines assist breaking* after landing. * Typo, but I'm leaving it in =)

  • Not exactly a scientist, and I agree with the other long answer about blades disrupting each other, so I'm replying to see if I can help you visualize/understand some of the forces at play.

My source is a Tom Clancy book about a sub war.

Typically the subs are stealthy, however if I remember correctly, I'd they decided to gun the engines (think something like 105% on the reactor), they could spin the blades really fast.

But compressing the water as the blade spins makes some of it high pressure and the other side of the blade low pressure.

This would reduce the pressure low enough that the water would become a gas and in doing so, make a lot of noise and was called cavitation.

When the sub commander did this, it did mean the ship could go very fast, but was noisy as hell and anyone near would know they were around, but if someone shot a torpedo at you and you had to get out of range.....

Before readying the other reply I thought something like this might have happened and disrupted the smooth laminar airflow.

I know aircraft have over speed and under speed warnings for propellors too, but I thought that was more to do with not breaking them than 'grabbing the air ' efficiently. Supersonic propellor tips aren't a good idea.

  • Hmmm. Going after the shape shifter who took the shape of an ex / current partner and romanced her but then swindled her on something like an elopement. But the party doesn't know it yet, so they go after the ex but along the way we realize the real ex is innocent , so the ex joins they party.

  • I remember seeing a mobile phone cable section in a servo there were one cable had 3 heads that could be changed as needed. Dunno about whether they also do data though. So buying a combo cable could be a solution.
