Really? For me, Season 3 was when it finally stopped sucking (as much), and S4 was good. The only thing that made S2 bearable was Pike, and them buddying up with Space Hitler put me off until S4.

Using Firefox and uBlock Origin, and following uBlock’s instructions re: resetting and updating. Getting timeouts and popups from YT regardless.

Sadly it doesn’t work for me anymore (and yes I have followed uBlock’s instructions).

1. My old phone had reached ‘thoroughly shagged out’ levels of wear and I needed a replacement.
2. iPhone seemed to be an easy to use and well polished interface (and it has been for the most part, despite this back button weirdness).
3. iPhones by most accounts have really good build quality now.
4. I’m absolutely done with Google and their data harvesting ways. Apple are much better, and sure they no doubt record usage habits for their own purposes, there’s little evidence I’ve seen that they sell that data on. Also, I cannot be arsed to fuck around with GrapheneOS, I like privacy, but I’m not militant about it, and still want access to apps.
5. I like the aesthetic.
6. I never had an iPhone, and if I’m ever to have a valid opinion on them, I ought to use one instead of blindly following a brand and repeating second hand opinions.
7. For similar reasons to 6, I want to try a Mac at some point soon as well, and iPhone has some neat tricks with it.
8. The camera quality is fantastic.

While I came from outside a walled garden, I used maybe two apps which had to be sideloaded. The only one I really miss is newpipe, but there’s browser based solutions for YouTube. I’ve just reached a point in my life where I want my phone to ‘just work’ and I don’t care about being a power user, least of all on my phone.
