There's no evidence for free will. Every physical process involved in the function of our bodies and brains has so far proven to be deterministic in every way we can verify. That doesn't mean you can't have an original thought though, it just means that any original thought you have was necessarily going to happen and couldn't possibly have happened any other way. It's fate.
I'm not sure if we watched the same show, I recall them doing all sorts of harmful and/or illegal things that most decent people would not find relatable at all. It definitely doesn't portray them as the deliberate organized evil that real life law enforcement actually are, but it's a comedy and this is the US it never would have been greenlit in the first place if they did. I think it does a good job of undermining the public image of US law enforcement in a way that deeply indoctrinated Americans won't immediately dismiss as hostile.
From the original Reuters article linked in another comment
"Reuters was unable to determine how many solar power inverters and batteries they have looked at."
"Both (sources) declined to be named"
"The two people declined to name the Chinese manufacturers of the inverters and batteries with extra communication devices, nor say how many they had found in total."
"The existence of the rogue devices has not previously been reported. The U.S. government has not publicly acknowledged the discoveries."

Nothing in this article or anywhere else presents any actual evidence that the Chinese government ever had direct access to US user data, and the claims presented here all predate the transition to Oracle servers, which were conducted in cooperation with the US government specifically to ensure that US user data wouldn't be available to the Chinese government. The easiest route to our data has been and continues to be buying it from US companies, which is still completely legal.
US tiktok data has been hosted by Oracle on their own servers on US soil for several years now, China doesn't have access to it. Also they can and do just buy your user data from US companies. If you don't like Tiktok then you don't have to use it, but fear of Chinese surveillance is a stupid reason to avoid the app.
