  • Ah, yep. So more like they bring their multi-function communication / information / documentation / entertainment devices with them. Heck, they may even use those devices for the time-travel itself. And then when they get to the ancient past, they pay no attention to the scenery and just watch reruns.

  • I know you updated the post and what you're really interested in is any tech they dropped not surviving, but I wanted to point out that "cell phones" would be useless with the infrastructure. They would be better off bringing radios or Star Trek-like communicators which transmit directly from one to another.

  • I already knew what the answer would be, and we have 20 people saying the same thing. But in my experience, the people who back into parking spots are among the worst parkers.

They save time pulling out, but they take ages to back in, generally speaking. Especially in a busy area where cars are lined up to find spots, you're waiting for every car in front of you to park before you can drive past them to the next spot.

  • Two reasons. One, you may be using a wide angle lens, which makes things look farther away, but as a tradeoff gives you a wider field of view.

Two, you may be viewing the image on the tiny camera screen instead of on a large TV. The image has been shrunk to fit the screen.

Try using a zoom lens or zooming into the digital image on a larger screen.

  • Is it time that's allowed the moon's gravity to affect the tides? I think it would cause tides even if it suddenly appeared out of nowhere into orbit.

Now, I'd need someone else to explain why the effect on the tides is so visible. I'd suggest that it is because the water in the oceans both has a huge mass and is fluid, so its shape can change easily. There's a difference between the moon pulling a portion of the water closer to it on one side of the planet and the moon "stretching" a person who is caught between the Earth's and moon's gravities.

The bulge on the opposite side of the Earth from the moon is because the Earth is being pulled away from the water.

  • It's likely that someone thinks it. If OP can think up that rationale and reject it, someone with less critical thinking can think it up and embrace it.

It's not particularly useful to know if some people believe a ridiculous thing, because they almost certainly do. It's more useful to know how widespread the thinking is and how it may influence culture. What are the consequences of this line of thought and is anyone trying to exploit it for political gain?

Without some poll or study, we can each go by personal experience. I'd wager this isn't as commonplace as other illegitimate reasons to not like rap, include just general racism.
