  • Does commercial drone flying pay well? I've been thinking about getting my part 107, mostly for wikipedia and OSM contributions though.

  • Yeah, but worth it for important backups since they take a long time to degrade!

  • I still use them (in M-DISC blu-ray form) for encrypted backups.

  • Yep, you can pay with monero for faster direct downloads

  • They stole people's identity, so yes, while they duped the banks, they were stealing people's mail at the same time.

  • In no way does Signal prevent conversations from being archived. For all you know, a recipient could be screenshotting all of your messages, and they could even be using the official app when doing so.

If you don't trust your contacts, probably shouldn't be messaging them anything sensitive.

  • If it was just my parents and I using it, that'd be fine, but it's not. In my experience, nothing is quite as simple as "always on", and if something breaks, even unrelated to tailscale or anything I set up, I'll be to blame even when it wasn't my fault.

It just wouldn't work for my users, unfortunately, and I don't want to be responsible for endpoints on networks that someone else owns. I'm not denying that it's possible or that it works for some people.

That's the real benefit of a solution like Plex - it makes it so I only have to manage my own network, and if I want to invite someone new, I just ask them for the email attached to their Plex account, and I'm done.

I also am curious where you're finding rpi's for $35.

  • Your users shouldn't be upset because nothing has changed for them. It shouldn't be the end of the world to tell your users that nothing has changed. None of my users have reached out.

I'll agree that they should have only sent it to affected users.

Your users might be more upset that you're pulling the plug and will require technically involved setups such as tailscale for Jellyfin. Gotta pick your battles.

  • I'm not a diehard fan of plex or anything, but I would never be able to get my mother in law to properly set up any type of VPN. None of my users are technically inclined. Until Jellyfin has a different solution, I will unfortunately be sticking with Plex.

  • It doesn't matter that they got the email, everyone did. You need to read it further and see that if a server owner has a Plex pass, the users do not need to pay.

  • I don't quite understand your confusion, they sent the email to everyone with an account. The email indicates clearly that if a server owner has a Plex pass, the users do not need it. The email is not "wrong".

  • Of course, like someone else here said, anything is possible. Since we're talking broadly, they wouldn't necessarily even need the spyware if you leak anything else network wise, meaning even if you use Linux it could be caught.

  • I posted this elsewhere, but..

Their food started being so insanely priced that they made a post that was the equivalent of corporate propaganda back in 2024. This was disproven again and again and again.

Their greed has been hurting them because no one wants to pay the insane prices for shit food. They stopped competing with budget fast food, coming closer to fast casual. Like, if I'm gonna spend that cash, I might as well go to Five Guys or Red Robin.

I noticed similar drastic price increases at Little Caesars. $30 for two pizzas and a breadstick combo is insane especially since they use the worst ingredients and let their pizzas sit around all day. Dominos is actually cheaper in my area, why the hell would I ever go to Little Caesars?

  • Why do LLMs obsess over making numbered lists? They seem to do that constantly.

  • I want to mention this disclaimer, though: right now, at least in tech roles, it's currently very difficult to actually land one of these jobs. Listings are getting hundreds of applicants per hour on some occasions. There's a lot of competition because of recent return to office mandates and layoffs, and it might be awhile before that changes.

  • And it’s not clear when the current crisis, which began in 2023 and is blamed on warming oceans, will end.

    It won't.

  • Graphene allows for fingerprint and second factor pin unlock, which is what I use. I mostly do that for cops, though, since in the US you can be legally compelled to unlock your phone with biometrics but not pin.

Wouldn't stop someone from torturing you to unlock your device, but that's what a duress pin is for ;) (they may kill you once your phone wipes but at least they wouldn't have your data)

  • This is one of the few reasons I dislike living in the area I do, defense contractors are basically the only ones nearby hiring for engineering roles. Luckily I work remotely, but if that ever changed and I couldn't find another remote position, I'd probably have to move. I'm not about to sell my soul.

  • In the past, when I've used SFTP, I just use the openssh docker container with a mount of my filesystem (since SFTP uses SSH). Particularly this image: https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxserver/openssh-server

I can't speak to sftpgo as I haven't used it, but from looking it up it seems that some people like it, although it's a pain to set up. If you want something simple I'd still just go with openssh.
