  • I haven't "celebrated" the fourth in nearly a decade for this reason. On top of that fireworks are pretty bad for everything and those with PTSD.

  • Yeah, it's one of those things where I was vaguely aware of the hazard, but for some reason wasn't consciously acknowledging it. Since I came to that realization, I've started to gather all of my lithium batteries to take stock and start to get rid of some.

I'm definitely more worried about the batteries I've forgotten about that ended up in boxes or drawers. Another thing to keep me up a night, yay.

  • I lost my model A1263 in a box during a move. I've been looking for it over the last couple of weeks once I was notified about this, but no luck. I actually emailed Anker to ask if there's a risk of fire even in storage or not in use, and apparently it can happen even when not under any load and completely discharged.

I don't even know if I still have it. Fingers crossed that my serial isn't one of the affected ones, but I'll keep looking and hoping that it doesn't burn my house down.

  • The donut shops around me are so much better anyway, so even if you don't want to get healthy, there's probably better options.

  • Holy shit, this guy actually thinks that women marginalize themselves. The mental gymnastics behind that thinking are insane.

  • You can use Molly from F-Droid. They even have a full FOSS version that you can set up a self hosted notification socket for, to avoid Google Firebase.

  • I use a fake name at restaurants and fast food, and if I know something is coming via FedEx or UPS, I also use a fake name for that too. Unfortunately USPS will only deliver packages to the listed names at your address, or I would use a fake name for everything.

  • Your experience isn't the same as everyone else's, that's my point. Just because you like to use a chunk of your free time to shop doesn't mean everyone else does. Many in your situation would prefer to use that time at home with their kids (where you can also avoid technology after ordering if you desire, btw)

  • It usually has nothing to do with priorities, and everything to do with the crushing weight of capitalism giving you no time for leisure or recreation otherwise. Have kids and two jobs? Good luck spending much time with them.

I don't personally use grocery delivery services but I can see their appeal and use.

  • The switch 2 is overall a real bummer. I don't understand why people are buying it, the only real "reason" is the exclusive games, but I'm happy to wait for emulation to be available. I can already play the original switch games on my steamdeck.

  • Graphene is centered around security. I've heard bad things about Fairphone in that regard - the Graphene team even talks about them in the replies on that thread.

  • Sure, I was trying to correct the statement that it's not possible at all though.

  • You can still torrent with Mullvad, it's just gonna be slower because you have less peers. But it's still 100% doable. They don't block torrenting entirely..

  • This article isn't about that, so clearly you did not read the article.

  • Do you choose to use roads? Do you choose to shower? Do you choose to use power? Do you choose to use sewer? Do you choose to use public parks? Do you choose to use libraries? Do you choose to use anything subsidized by the government?

Then you're choosing to pay for it. Million dollar infrastructure projects cannot be funded without taxes. It's better if the load is balanced. This is why billionaires should be footing the majority of the bill, so you don't have to cover their share. You should reframe your question to: why do billionaires steal money from us by not paying their fair share?

  • Question about this since I've never been asked - they asked for a photo copy of your diploma? I landed my tech job without them even checking or asking for my college diploma, let alone my high school diploma (both of which I would be willing, but it's strange to me)
