We criticize the Chinese government for spying on its citizens. We claim it's undemocratic to do so. Yet we do the same thing. This is not whataboutism, it's textbook hypocrisy.

Edit: apparently people are confused by whataboutism and hypocrisy.

It's not that it's unsafe to drive in Detroit due to crime, it's just that the automotive industry lobbied hard to make the country car friendly, and that city faced the worst of it.
