  • ...can you not make me feel like a fossil

  • Oh hey you also got bit by a kid in 2nd grade? I punched the kid that did it to me. Walk in the next day and get sent to the principals office. When I told them why I did it they tried looking for teeth marks to prove it. A solid 16 hours later.

    Damn bureaucrats

  • It's probably a mix, but I'd wager it's primarily a side effect of the existence of the internet. Before you'd hear the bad things in your immediate community, the really bad things from your country/region/whatever, and really only the truly horrible stuff from the world as a whole. Now you can have a constant feed of every bad thing that happens everywhere. As you see more of it, you're bound to get desensitized.

But hey on the otherhand I have unlimited videos of cute puppies and I'd be lying if I said that wasn't a pretty big upside.

  • I'm sure Meta won't be awful this time! Sure they've been awful quite literally every single chance they've gotten, but they won't be this time!

  • Honestly I don't care what the official term, at all. If its empty housing, it's inventory. If you're sitting on empty housing because the rent isn't high enough for you, you're part of the problem. We have the housing. We also have limitless amounts of greed and selfishness.

  • The point is the inventory is there. It's been there. Anyone telling you "we need more supply" is blatantly lying, either because they've been lied to or because they have an agenda

  • The only explanation for someone getting back in line to get kicked in the balls for the 15th time in the row is the must really like getting kicked in the balls

  • Nothing quite like actively advocating for the end of democracy to own the libs!

  • I really hate to break it to you, but supply isn't the issue, at least not the way you're implying. There's more than enough empty housing for every single person in this nation.

The primary issues are extreme amounts of land/property being bought up by investment firms only to sit empty in order to artificially drive supply down and only higher end housing being built new due to profit margins.

  • The whole point is that instance owners/admin are allowed to run their instance however they want

  • You stupid monkey!

  • Y'know, like authoritarians. They do authoritarian things. Because they want a dictatorship.

  • Probably a pretty big grey area, considering how many mobile websites are for all intents and purposes an app. I'm sure you'd be able to do it with some minimal added "functionality" to satisfy the requirements.

  • I vowed to never give them a dime after the $100 beta test that was Destiny 1 Year 1

  • Isn't threadiverse already a term to specifically describe the kbin/lemmy/etc. style of fediverse service?

  • Doubling is fine, people tend to be awful at visualizing exponential growth as it is

  • The only thing I can think of is there was some sort of stars-align scenario that he felt needed to happen, and that he would never get a better chance. Either that or he knew there was a hit on him and he felt time was running out.

  • Every little thing? Of course not. When it comes to something as major as basic bodily autonomy? Yeah. When we're talking about active violations of rights and the active effort to expand said violations of rights, not actively fighting against it is actively being for it. Sitting on your ass while these things happen because MUH BOTH SIDES doesn't make you noble, it makes you complicit in the blatant death march towards authoritarian we are on.

I hope to whatever higher power is out there that I'm off my ass wacko off base here, but considering the trajectory we're on, just know that the fault will primarily lie in the hands of those who simply sat on their asses doing nothing.

  • I think you're underestimating the sheer amount of infrastructure that would be needed for a proper youtube competitor by about an order of magnitude. Even twitch pales in comparison to the sheer amount of data being processed and stored
