  • Doesn't hurt to check out your options. And almost any job will welcome you back (usually at your new pay rate) if you change your mind down the road.

Over my career, lateral moves have netted me +80%, +30%, and 20%. Not to mention quality of work/life improvements.

Most companies basically offer a < 5% raise every year, which is just around inflation. Maybe a 10% bump if you get promoted. The wider world values your skills much more.

  • Every year my father-in-law collects torn wrapping paper and plastic boxes in a giant garbage bag and fills it. 95% of the presents will end up in the garbage or be forgotten in a few months.

The amount of time, money, and resources wasted are so depressing. My kids don't need more shit. I don't need more shit. Could we just hang out?

  • I'm not a huge football/soccer fan, but I love the concept of promotion/relegation. Around here if you have a losing team you get rewarded with a high draft pick. It's a strategy to be terrible.

I also would love having lower level teams to watch, but that's pretty rare. If you have a pro team in your city, you probably don't have a semi pro team with the exception of baseball.

Maybe that's why so many people enjoy watching college sports. Although I have my own issues with that scene, because of course I do.

  • Seems crazy. I think professional sports would be so much cooler if the community had stake in the team and got something out of winning/profits.

It's just so weird to attach your identity to a team that you are in no way a part of, other than the location.

  • Team owners: "We're just humble billionaires and we care so much about your state. The team is part of the community... Now subsidize our massively profitable business or we'll move the team."

I'll never understand why fans are die hard loyal to franchises that screw them at every possible opportunity. Insane ticket prices, seat license fees (which are somehow different than tickets?), insane concession prices, ads on everything- it hurts my brain.

  • Of course not, but that's not really how they think. They tend to do what's best for them now, and then ignore the rules in the future when it hurts them.

Rules for thee not for me.

  • Trustworthiness in the platform is dead. Musk uses it like his personal sandbox. Advertisers are quickly pulling out. I don't know how they're possibly financially staying afloat.

Twitter was so engrained in communication that it's difficult for many users to leave (sports, etc.). So, I agree, it's not dead yet, but Musk seems to be doing everything he can to poison the well.

I can't imagine how removing the communications department from a company that specializes in communication seemed like a good idea...

  • It's a dangerous crossroads. The precedent would break this country...

And 3 of the judges making the decision were appointed by the guy on trial. Clarence Thomas is openly corrupt. And I wouldn't depend on Roberts for any my moral backbone.

  • I think it's ugly as balls. But then some people like the look of balls, and I respect individual preference. Life would be a lot more boring if we all liked the exact same things.

On the other hand Elon is piece of shit.

Maybe buy the DeLoean and spend the extra $90k on a working Flux Capacitor?

  • My Linux knowledge isn't what it used to be, but I believe you can easily make a thumb drive with a bootable distro. I would recommend taking whatever you choose for a test drive before you wipe a working system. That way you can see if there's any weird stuff that doesn't want to work.

  • Actual fascists are just as bad as people who want social change? Fascism is a very real thing. The leading Republican candidate has frequently made very literal threats, and has already supported one attempted coup.

In absolutely no way are the two parties "just as dangerous".

  • I hope he's in jail, but I doubt it. Dingus has committed crimes at the highest level his whole life and seen zero repercussions. He now has sway with an openly corrupt supreme Court, the support of millions of zealous idiots, and continues to get trial delays that may push results beyond the election.

Just look at the open threats he's spewing and has yet to spend a night in jail. All they've done is fine him a paltry amount, which his dipshit base will gladly pay for.

We are on a very scary precipice. Trump's four years in office were far worse than I could have imagined, and have exposed so many faults in our government. I dread what another four years would bring.

  • Waiting tables at a casual+ restaurant? Yes. The ratio is mostly girls- in their 20s. The turnover is high, so there's always new people coming in. You're around each other constantly so it's not awkward to strike up a conversation. Plus the parties were pretty fun.

I don't think you'd have the same luck at McDonald's, or in management, but serving at decent places I always had good luck.
