  • Hello.

Remember that veganism is an ethical way of living affordable and available to everyone*. Eating and using animal products is a choice, therefore killing and abusing animals is a choice. Stop abusing immigrants to butcher animals for your taste buds, thanks. Stop falling for obvious propaganda and cheap lies by the agricultural industrial complex, thanks. This is still a message of love despite the fact that this makes you feel dissonance in yourself, you're human, we get it. Do your best, actually try, the world needs us to be kind to animals and nature.

*as far as is possible and practicable.

  • Nobody's mentioning this but the reason is that when they say 'next big thing' what they mean is 'being able to monetize it and make it profitable'.

They care about usefulness only insofar as its a way to monetize it. It doesn't need to be useful at all. It's maybe a nice buzzword for on the PowerPoint slide when they're trying to convince investors.

But investors aren't idiots and they are usually pretty fucking tuned in to whatever they put money on. And ai is very oversold and overpromised. It's not that great, very difficult to get to do what you want, and very costly to operate, with mostly questionable/untrustworthy results that still require a lot of knowledge to be able to work with. Plus it's begging for a lot of new legislation to protect copyrights and privacy law. So, we need a bunch of idiots with money to make this work and those are usually in the large tech companies (think the bezos and musks of this world). They have the infrastructure and resources to put into it, and then they try to incorporate it into their ecosystem. They'll probably fuck everything up forever and probably make it so llm's and other models are going to have to be destroyed to be able to comply to legislation.

Anyone with a brain stays away from investing in this and maybe hedge it a bit. See what happens... I don't think that there's going to be other companies popping up in this space. But just the continuing progress of big tech streamlining their current systems until enough people are exposed to enough bullshit to change legislation. Depending on that, maybe some companies will be able to give us something useful like: An ai personal assistant that figured out in the middle of a conversation to put the appointment you made in the agenda, ordered a seat in the restaurant and reroutes you to a gasstation because you're low on fuel and messages your spouse you're 5 minutes late because of it. While your privacy is protected and your data secure.

In the meantime we can make pictures of cats in space wearing a clown costume.

  • the witness shifts reality in a way that is difficult to describe, but bleeds into the real world. If you've never played it and enjoy learning, this is a serious gem.

    Found my original review:

"This game will bend your perception of the world. It is one of those rare games that define the genre. Everything you need to know to get through this game is always right in front of you, but nothing is ever explained. Every puzzle has rules, rules that you slowly have to figure out. And as you play more, you'll look at things differently. It is amazing how much is hidden on this fantasticly crafted island. True art. Also a timeless game, pick this up at any point in your gaming career. It took me 100 hours to be able to say that I've seen everything."

  • In no real particular order, games with highest impact on me:

    1. battlefield 1942 - desert combat mod

Ground breaking at the time. Physics and gamespeed have never been captured by any other game. Consumed my free time for a long time.

    2 counter strike

Simple concept, extreme depth. I've clocked several thousand hours into this franchise.

    1. The witcher 3

In terms of world building and story telling... Incredible.

    1. The Witness

Absolute masterclass in game design, world design. Puzzle design.. This is an incredible puzzle game that will shift your perspective.

    1. Faster than light

I haven't found anything else quite scratch that replay ability, that tethering on the brink of losing, itch. It's a unique game.

    1. Guild wars 2

Completely changed the way mmorpgs were played, and was a great mmo.

    1. Monkey Island

I wanted to mention a point and click, several spring to mind, but this still series lives in my mind the most. Although space quest is another that impacted my young brain.

    1. Minecraft

Like... I was there since its debut. Still watching and enjoying mc related content.

    1. Elite

Space is pretty big and cool

    1. Eve online

Getting back stabbed by the person you've been back stabbing for, so you join the enemies of your friends to be able to backstab your backstabbers.

  • So let's be very clear here. This is basically true for any new car, practically no 'normal car' has come out (in the US) for the past few years. The amount of feature creep has been massive, some due to regulations, some because adding it is cheap. The only place where you can get relatively bare bones is in pick ups. Not in suv's. Cars except sportscars are no longer being offered, only two 'normal' models (accord and camry) still exist. These all have driver assist tech and large screens as well. You won't be able to get around features hiding behind touch screens, simply impossible to find in today's market.

The problem for Evs is that beyond styling the only differentiating factor is tech. They are all fast and differ not that much in range, speed, comfort, handling in their price ranges. This has pushed tech into the car industry, especially in the US where people are willing to go into debt for cars, to the point where the average price for a new car is 47k. Compared to eu: 27k

In principle, the less you pay the less tech you get. But for any new car, there is tech. No way around it anymore. You can buy the car and ignore it.

  • It's incredible that this was viable in the first place. Of course these type of experimental surgeries are done on extremely sick people at the end stage of normal care. So, actually two months is nothing to scoff at. It means a successful operation. I hope autopsy will give insight. What this man did is incredibly brave and important for mankind. Hero in my books.

  • Im in the privileged position where I can say that I was educated to pronounce and write in British English. And while I'm not a native speaker, I'm confident that my knowledge of the English language surpasses most of native speakers in the US, if not 99%. My spell checker is biased for us English.

Now if you excuse me I have to go back to my flat, with my lorry having chips and candy floss in the boot. Do you even elevator bro?

  • The power needed to power the laser, if identical, is what determines the temperature here, not the color.

A thousand watt laser is going to make the lead melt while a 5 watt laser won't.

Another limiting factor is how fast the lead/target material can dissipate the heat. A 10kg block of lead is going to stay a lot cooler than a 5 gram piece of lead.

The colour of the laser has no influence on the final temperature, at all.

The photons are just transferring energy from a to b. And whether they can do it fast or slow doesn't really matter. Both blue and red photons are subject to the law of conservation of energy. The amount of energy you put in is the amount of energy you get out.

In reality there is probably a difference in how efficient a blue and red laser diode are, so there are losses. And if one is slower than the other, the target material is losing energy to the surrounding air. And that's why you'll get different temperatures.

In an ideal setting with exactly identical lasers, where the only difference is the colour, the end result is also exactly the same.
