The fact that making significant sacrifices in abandoning many of the decadent comforts of this period at our only habitat's irreparable (on a human timescale) damage expense shows how determined we are to wrexk this place.

Imagine mass famines and frequent catastrophic weather events a couple generations from now. I'm guessing they'll look at us being above living with our once kind, nurturing habitat with disdain and bewilderment when they're steeped in the fruits of our lifestyles.

It does, but if a catastrophic war, including one with nuclear weapons, brought us down to 2 billion from 9, those nukes wouldn't even touch the current course of heavy industry of 9 billion that we recklessly became without a thought in the world about whether our only habitat could support it.

Because shooting wars end, even if through attrition. Industry just keeps metastizing if you let it, and pretty lies like "but we planted trees! That evens out all the shit we're pumping in the air and water!" are just pretty lies.

If we cared about our species having a future, heavy industry would be scaled back to food/medicine, we could sow our own clothes, go back to horses, breed less, communaly build our own structures, and whittle our own shelf crap, and we could perhaps still provide a future to subsequent generations. We do not.

Neither does a cancer cell, or the cows/chickens/pigs we raise for slaughter, or all the marine life choking on our plastic, or the bees, on and on.

Life usually doesn't want to die, but since industrialization, we've decided to betray our place in Earth's ecosystem, and haven't stopped beating the shit out of it with the tools we're clever enough to create but lack the impulse control/desire to wield responsibly.

We had to kill a lot of Nazis to end world war II. They thought they were right, they didn't want to die, but they had to be stopped because of the needless suffering they were causing. We just largely don't see or choose to ignore the same reality on an even larger scale because humans not only solely care about and respect human life, we are highly selective even in that in irrational ways.

I'm weird though, I try to take as objective a viewpoint as possible. Looking down from high orbit as an outsider at this lush world's climate being artificially reverse terraformed to be more hostile towards virtually all life on it, something that would take millions of years to self-correct once the damage stopped, and seeing it all apparently being done by Earth's apex predator with an apparent death wish pumping shit into the air while seemingly aware of its continuing effect on all life here including themselves, what would you think?

Why are we more important than the approx 8.7 MILLION entire other species that also live here that lack the ability to resist us? Might has been proven time and again that it doesn't equal right.

Lets be honest, Earth and almost all life on it would benefit from a lot less humans.

Then we lie to them and tell them "it will get better" to get them off the ledge solely to try to squeeze a little more productivity out of them for the owners before they realize "but society cares about you" was just yet another layer of bullshit by a civilization that's been warped and perverted to serve the singular goal of "make the wealth class wealthier" at literally all expense, even the very air we all breathe.

A poor person begging for help will just get a 72 hour hold, some generic pills tossed at them to dull their mind, and even more debt for begging for help, where a wealthy sociopath that exploits thousands including that poor person will get all the mental health assistance they desire up to and including self-actualization and strategies to mitigate any wealth guilt when they should very much feel guilty for exploiting others and hoarding more than they would need for several gluttonous lifetimes when struggling people exist.

Studies have shown a 4 day, 8 hour work week INCREASES weekly productivity, ie money for the owners. WFH doesn't decease productivity at all.

The owners work against such work life balance because its about keeping you busy and stretched, no time to look up or get your bearings.

...And also schadenfreude, it makes their modern Pharoah, gluttonous, wasteful lifestyles feel all the sweeter squeezing those below them and watching us writhe and squirm.

I do myself, on albeit 5 year old hardware that struggles on my home server, but with decent GPUs with decent amounts of Vram running in the thousands, it isn't accessible to most even with the inclination.

Entire industries cannibalizing one another to eliminate competition and their industry's ability and desire to make the products/services they existed for in the first place. TimeWarnerHBODiscoveryblahblah shelving projects for tax cheats, making lazy appeals to nostalgia for what the companies they destroyed once made, and cheap reality garbage instead of actual media comes to mind, but it's terminal capitalism, it's happening in every sector.

Then they lay off their workers cutting their workforce to the bone by activist shareholder demand, eliminating potential consumers of the economy.

Now they want to use AI to cut the bone.

The economy no longer has any interest in the human beings it was created as a lowly tool to serve. We're being cut out entirely, except the small class of private owners, of course.

AI could and should be used to free mankind from tedious labor, that's why such innovation should have come from well funded PUBLIC research our economy should have been oriented to feed for PUBLIC benefit.

Instead, like every other technology, it will be used as yet another cudgel against society. This civilization is dogshit.

Or antisocial in the psychological sense, ie "I see it, and I'm not rich, but people suffering under me makes me feel superior, gives me the dopamine rush of schadenfreude, and I'll just go ahead and make shit up in my head about why I believe they deserve their suffering so I can just revel in how much better I'm doing guilt free."

As an American, its a tragic reality that 10s of millions of us are proud sadists. Not entirely our fault, our owners gained their fortunes by not caring about how their profiteering hurt others, ane they propagandize us to worship and deify them and their mindset of If I hurt you to benefit myself, its just business.

Here in the US, our society is in practice neutral towards human life. We (usually) don't actively kill each other, but we're completely comfortable letting our fellow citizens die under a freeway of exposure for the crime of not producing capital value for our owner class.

Instituting something like UBI would be a significant step towards finding congruence with our currently false, empty rhetoric of valuing human life.

Untl then, we as a people can and will continue to pretend that we do, but again in practice, it means the same as saying we value the candy bar wrapper we just threw in the trash.

Agreed. In 5-10 years, the owners who already own fhe means of production/propaganda/state violence will ALSO have armies of multipurpose humanoid robots they've used to replace the workforce they exploited and left in poverty defending them from us.

I taunt because people should be more than ready to fight and destroy the market and central bank servers where the people doing for ego score points store their records of power. If it was just me, I'd die and people would laugh and that would be it.

But I say what I say to try to be part of that one in a trillion chance of helping to make enough of us angry enough to do it together. There's approx 3k billionaires on Earth, and approx 28,000 100 million-plus-inaires on earth obsessed with and powerful enough to burn the world for their ego scores. We need to burn the god damned ego scores and their backups. Full reset.

Until then, they leverage those ego scores to keep us at bay while destroying our habitat. We can stop them, we in all likelyhood won't, but again, enough angry people have beheaded tyrants. It's possible... with enough people. Or humanity will just burn 🤷

See that's the thing, we crow about how "free" we are, but our police are militarized. You don't get a permit for an ineffectual fake protest that won't disrupt commerce, and suddenly we are no different than Iran or Hong Kong, and our police WILL kill us for "lawless" actual disruptive protest.

When you cut through the intentional bullshit layers they point to to convince us we're "free" our capitalist owners are just as willing to kill us to maintain power as Xi or any other totalitarian regime, our totalitarian regime is just a consortium of private shareholders who realized it's easier to convince their slaves they volunteered through propaganda.

Harder? No, I'm saying getting a permit from those you're protesting to protest them makes protest here as effective as masturbation.

Protest all you like, just make sure you protest where, when and how the owners who literally use their power/capital hire organizations to write their preferred laws and legally bribe officials to enact them demand you do under threat of the state violence they own. But that isn't really protest, as protest in the true sense involves disruption. American protest has become permission to stand in a designated corner together and be angry while not disrupting a damned thing, lest it injure our beloved economy.

Protest by the dictates of permit, and especially permit issued by a proxy of the protestee, is the opposite of that, defanged protest.

Protest has become a bad joke here. Get a permit by the state officals that the profiteers own and order around, at a designated protest time, in a designated protest place so as not to disturb the eyelines or profits of those being protested.

That isn't protest, that's unmitigated acquiescence. When the oppressors make the laws, and they do here, mass revolt is necessary. The owners let us protest in the above way precisely to completely devalue and depower protest here.

I think it's important to point out that while voting will stave off some cultural suffering and that's reason enough, it will do all but nothing to address any of the many greedy profiteer made crises threatening humanity.

So, so many people think their vote IS addressing said crises, while our system is configured to prevent that and it won't at all. So we can vote and then ALSO revolt, burn the profiteers and stop their quest for reckless, terminal growth/metastasis on a finite world before they burn the planet, our only COMMUNal habitat we all rely on from one breath to the next.

It was pathetic to watch Trump's idiots attack the profiteer's paid middle managers in DC in his honor btw, hilariously wrong target Wall Street is a few hundred miles north if you want to affect positive change.

So it is important for people to know that if they do want humanity to have a future that isn't fighting to survive on a planet we're turning against ourselves and cant turn back amongst other capitalist stoked dooms of our own species' making, that yes, go vote, save persecuted groups from being scapegoated by the state by voting Biden, but if you actually want a future for the species, we need to do A LOT more than that small gesture.

But don't worry, we in all likelyhood won't, and we'll all burn with pretty I voted stickers on our chest, is what it is. 🔥

I'll vote for Biden again, just as I did for Clinton and Obama before.

It's water pumps on the Titanic though. I do it knowing all it is doing is temporarily staving off some people's social policy torment as we sink, so it's worth doing to sleep at night, but it's solving nothing as both the Neoliberals and fascists take their orders on economic policy from the same owners. We are encouraged to fight over social issues either created by or exacerbated by economic policy we aren't permitted a vote on. Example, you know what would drastically reduce the numbers of abortions en masse without any kind of ban? Income equity, because abortion is often an ECONOMIC decision for good reason. But we're left to argue over the symptoms of of our mass economic servitude, not the servitude itself. We don't get a vote on that short of suicide.

It's not worth celebrating that we the people have no choice or vote on the economy we need. Climate change is worsening for private profit, dangerous AI tech is worsening for private profit, income, housing, food inequity is worsening for private profit, and the neoliberal, the fascist, and their Congressional tribes refuse to do shit to change that systemic problem.
