  • It was a good run America, my country.

Native American genocide, Slavery, Jim Crow, today's migrant labor exploitation, largest prison population on Earth because private profit, Only "developed" nation without universal healthcare because private profit, waged war and conducted extralegal operations around the world to topple prosocial, anticapitalist regimes to keep their resource markets open for our profiteers exploitation, heavy handed influence on other countries to prioritize GDP metastasis over their people's wellbeing.

No it fucking wasn't. We talked a big game of benevolence, even might have veered towards a path of becoming benevolent in the wake of the capitalist created great depression, but that didn't last long. We were shit all the way down, and a destructive force in this world to this day.

North Korea, Russia, China, all bad actor authoritarians that only care about their own elite's power at their people's expense. That doesn't make us a good actor, merely a better marketed/propagandized bad actor that belongs in their company.

  • As someone who's also glad, the falsehood that we get what we deserve after we die is a very harmful one.

Justice doesn't come naturally or in some fairy tale afterlife. Justice came to Brian because someone else saw to it that it did.

The world would be a better place if people weren't deluded into believing the universe or some imagined deity will make things fair. It's a very pretty lie, but it has equally ugly consequences.

If we want a just world, we need to make one. It won't be handled off screen for us. This life is all we get.

  • Good thing we haven't been a functioning democratic republic since the 1970s and don't get a vote on our economy, as both parties are well bribed to protect the sociopathic economy from the citizens it hurts.

  • Yep, this country wasn't over when Trump got elected either time. He's a symptom of this country's death in its current form under the current constitution.

Reagan was the deathblow, this has just been leftover momentum, that appears to have finally waned. From Trickle down, to legalized bribery, to conversion of their former opposition party into neoliberal corporate bribe takers, to ending real news in favor of corpo serving propaganda like "climate change is a hoax to sell books, CONSUME" on and on.

Trump's authoritarian rise is just akin to vultures helping themselves to the corpse. This country has been little more than an oligarch exploitation piggy bank for half a century.

Yes it would be painful, but we'd need to tear it down and start over, as the core constitutional mechanisms for change have been circumvented through intential propaganda to sow division and protect the sociopathy of our economy from the citizens it hurts and murders for private profit. But we won't out of cowardice, so climate change will do what we're too social opiate addicted and fearful to do in a couple decades when it will hardly matter anymore.

  • In a perfect world, someone with Brian's insatiable, murderous greed disease would be put in a psychiatric hospital for public safety, along with every billionaire and hundred million plus inaire that treats society as their exploitation piggy bank, not that many people, but the sociopaths run the asylum here.

This is a class war, whether you choose to show your belly and say thank you for trading your life for their profit to your enemy or not. Brian was an enemy combatant of this class occupation.

  • Fuck no.

The answer to capitalists demanding more desperate slaves isn't to provide them more desperate slaves.

It's the opposite. For all the power the global oligarchs have over all of us, it's one of the few things they'd have a great deal of difficulty forcing at gunpoint, as that just makes a stronger case for a mercy coat hanger abortion (since they'll be outlawed everywhere sooner or later to feed the needs of the glorious capital markets) later on.

  • Dont forget, before the attempted coup, the government tried extend the work week from an already draconian 50 to 70 hours.

Making the young pay for the sins of the old and their greed/growth/metastasis disease. It's sickening. It's the opposite of planting trees whose shade you'll never sit in. It's malice towards any future because your time is up and want the world to pay for your bitterness.

It's what global capitalism has lowered our species to. "have kids you can't afford to take care of me in old age for a subsistence wage, burn up your lives in my honor, me me me!"

As someone forced to take care of an abusive parent until they grew too weak to physically hurt me over the course of my childhood and teens, I very much intend to put a gun in my mouth before I'd let my eventual, inevitable decline become any younger person's problem, whether my own child or not. I think anything else is the height of selfishness.

  • He'll be laid off in 2 weeks for asking for a raise, as workers should be there for the love of their job and not the paycheck, per the capitalist owner who would drown a bus full of orphans if it lowered their tax bill.

  • Lawlessness is better than what we have, laws that serve a couple million at everyone else's, hundreds of million's expense with no legal recourse.

We get no say in economic policy or regulation, only the how or if to address some of the social issue symptoms of that economy through our legally bribed parties. Arguing over abortion's legality instead of why productivity per worker has multiplied while the owner class now demands 2 breadwinners in most cases to survive, which is why most abortions happen, not enough to survive. But we don't legislate the "free" to die in the streets alone market, so the argument becomes forced births or not. The argument should be to fundamentally change what our economy should be oriented to reward like teachers and nurses, and punish like insatiable, sociopathic, antisocial greed and vocations/investments that hurt society for individual profit. But both major parties are well bribed to say that's evil socialism and tar and feather anyone who would dare say that to either of them.

Our system is already worse than lawlessness, our system is laws made by the wealthy (see ALEC) to extract the very lives from the poor for private profit, that the poor must simply suffer to remain lawful. It is effectively one way lawlessness from above. They can kill you with a dictate to their sycophants to deny more claims while sipping expensive bourbon on a beach, or by ignoring an expensive product safety issue, or by lowering inspection standards to save a buck and poisoning baby formula, and you and/or your baby can die quietly now that they have your money. That's the law here and now.

Makes lawlessness seem pretty attractive given the current intransigent oligarchy killing us for profit legally...

  • Those same people conveniently refuse to consider murder with a con (pay us now for Healthcare when you inevitably get sick) and and pen (lol we were lying thanks for all the money go die now) to be murder.

  • For schaudenfreude. Capitalism would collapse without the schaudenfreude of enforced inequality.

Almost everyone trained to worship capitalism is always taught to see their worth as a function of how badly other people are losing. That's why homelessness is an expensive problem we choose to pay extra for.

Studies have shown that all the conditioned shelters, programs, and cleanup are far more expensive than just providing conditionless basic housing for everyone without. But the homeless serve an essential purpose under runaway capitalism that takes control of a society instead of being a lowly tool of it: Capitalist Scarecrows and to look down on and fear becoming.

How can I feel rich if there aren't poories dying in the streets?

  • Exactly, it's not about the broken people doing unspeakable things.

It's about stooping to their level as a society, about being loathsome enough to demand an eye for an eye instead of being compassionate in the face of cruelty.

Honestly, you show me a serial killer, and I'll show you someone who almost certainly has clinical sociopathy in addition to other diagnoses which means they belong in a maximum security psychiatric hospital for the rest of their lives out of public safety, just like the sociopaths who hoard extreme levels of wealth to buy politicians and hurt/murder people through policy beyond their single vote for private profit who are clearly mentally ill should be.

The thing about the US though, is that we are a bloodthirsty, vengeful, schaudenfreude addicted society.

I've heard my fellow Americans wish death upon the homeless without the slightest bit of shame, whose only crime was failing to be good capital batteries, on the basis of lowering property values.

It's true no society should be judged by their elite citizens, but by how we treat our prisoners. By that metric, there are few societies lower than ours with the world's largest, often for profit prison population provided virtually no rehabilitation and literally set up to fail when they get out.

We are a monstrous nation. Not the only monstrous nation by any means, but up there with the worst by the scale of cruelty inflicted.

  • It's not just about failing at messaging.

The problem is that the capitalists, through their for profit media and bribed government official bully pulpit, simply drown out rational economic discussion in favor of "WE MUST STOP TAXING JOB CREATORS, REGULATION HINDERS GROWTH, FAST FOOD JOBS ARE FOR TEENAGERS TO BUY LOLIPOPS THEY DON'T NEED LIVING WAGES" etc.

I don't think there's a solution to this short of revolution, they control the signal, kill most truthful messages like trickle down was a self-serving lie by them to rob the nation blind, and if something happens like Luigi and they can't directly kill the signal, they start creating divisive messaging about it to scatter and create anymous between those listening. I'm seeing a lot from mainstream media trying to divide Luigi supporters as somehow a racial issue on the grounds the public is "falling into the white savior complex trap" Divide and conquer. Stoke every culture war but the one that informs all others: the class war. Profit.

You can have the most profound messaging possible with truth on your side, but unfortunately, the ones with the most volume win. It's why strength of argument has nothing to do with effecting policy in our dystopic nation of greed worship, as the last 50 years demonstrate.

  • It provided jobs and expertise in good times, before the Walmarts and Targets and then Amazons merely offered cheap.

Like so many things, it was better when there were stores for everything that had to charge more but employed more, tended to have better quality, better sourced products, and provided actual service, but the short term pied piper of "get it for $6 instead of $14" fucked us all in the long run, we murdered main street and made our own communities worse to save a buck today. Now the jobs that are left suck more, the prices suck from lack of competition, and we need only look in the mirror to see who enabled their con.

At least in the whole being a society and not a bunch of rugged individuals in a race to hell sense.

Not that party city or any specialized retailer has been a quality source for products or expertise in a long time. From Bed Bath and Beyond to Toys R US, specialized retailers are just zombie chains clinging to a societally better economy and culture that died decades ago, forced to abandon service and quality to limp along for another fiscal year until they cease to exist so Walmart can then jack up the prices for their party supplies now that there's no competition to kneecap for same day balloons.

  • Again, capitalism amplifies these divisions with the bully pulpits ONLY THE CAPITALISTS CONTROL through government and profit media.

You can't have any movement they don't inform and can't kill entirely if they wish, because they own the signal, and a few techies on distributed social media doesn't change that.

But nothing will change, because there are too many people that refuse to acknowledge that, that think their cause is more important and must take priority when the class war either created or exacerbates their oppression, effects more people, almost everyone, and while identify affirmation is a nice and in a decent society important thing, material needs, food, water, shelter for ALL are objectively a higher priority than telling 10% of the population for any subgroup "I see you, your identity is valid." I'm all for that. But this is a literal war where people are being murdered, and a cause parade for any cause other than stop murdering/exploiting our very lives for profit us has no place in a war for the vast majority of the population's survival.

And it's ridiculous when people say "we can do both" no we can't. We can't do anything. We've been in a steady downward spiral for 60 years as income inequity has grown. We can't do anything under this economy. Not one god damned lasting thing. That is by oligarch design.

But we won't as a society unite and forcefully remove that common enemy because someone else has to have their symptom addressed before. Climate change will do what we should have in a few decades, force the permanent collapse of this inhuman economy, but it'll hardly matter then, and nothing equitable will take it's place.
