  • I'm going to disagree with you on the "is Mac better than Windows" front - I think there's good arguments either way though. At least with a Mac, the end user is still, mostly, who they are designing for. On Windows the end user is becoming the product.

  • Based on my experience with a modded 3ds, many people are willing to spend a few extra minutes on transferring data if they can avoid annoyances with juggling physical media. Unless there's a common USB mod for the C64, propping your phone up to your C64 for a few minutes might have some appeal from a convenience perspective.

  • Another Jak and Daxter could be awesome, but I was so thoroughly disappointed in the Crash Team Racing remaster a few years ago it has basically made me give up hope that nostalgia-based games can be more than cash grabs.

  • I didn't have a 3ds when it was current because of getting a headache the one time I tried one, but I bought a new 3ds last year and I have no issues with having the 3d on for shorter gaming sessions. The eye tracking seems to be a huge improvement for me.

I've played Virtual Boy games on my 3ds and it's pretty amazing. You're right that due to the 3d being optional in most games means they couldn't really use it in gameplay, but with the Virtual Boy games, those were designed for and must be played in 3d. It really made me wonder what could have been for the 3ds if all the things about the hardware that made the 3ds special were used in more creative ways.

  • Content Warning: mood killer, anti-LGBTQ violence

So, I'm queer and originally from Orlando, and I used to listen to WJRR, the local rock station, in the I heart Radio app (don't use it, fuck clear channel). One morning in June 2016, I shuffled outside for my first cigarette and I decided to check my phone. There's a push notification, from the I heart Radio app, about a mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando. And that's how I found out that there was a mass shooting at Pulse. That is probably the most jarring and horrifying push notification I'll ever receive in my life.

  • Yeah but that broke GRUB and had a pretty specific error message associated with it. I don't think problems with grub look like what OP is describing (although I don't know enough to say for sure).

Anecdotally, I'm running a Fedora Atomic-based OS alongside Windows and that Windows update didn't cause any problems for me.

  • Okay, I'm really curious how this will work officially. I'm one of those nerds who think it's kinda neat that you can watch an entire baseball game in an Excel spreadsheet.

Is there any interest in a FOSS baseball/softball scorebook that can calculate stuff for you? Might be a fun project.

  • Orlando used to have a pro women's fastpitch team called the Wahoos.

I just wanted to share my pointless knowledge that is so obscure that it wouldn't even be useful at trivia night, lol.

  • All sports have some level of risk. I've got permanent knee issues due to playing softball as a kid. IIRC cheerleading has the highest rate of ER visits for kids sports - the throws and the like are dangerous, and ime parents are slightly more likely to take moderately serious injuries seriously in girls rather than the "walk it off" mentality that my parents and a lot of others have. A shotputter friend has some horrifically wild stories about near misses at their high school.

Sports have a lot of benefit for a lot of kids though, you have to draw the line somewhere. And I think tackle football is over it, I wouldn't ban anything else that I know of, but I'd definitely support banning youth tackle football. My parents refused to let my brother or I play tackle football as kids because of the danger, I think some awareness of CTE was out there even back in the 90s.

  • It's a 196 community thing. The only (official) rule is that you must post before you leave, so people put the word "rule" in the title, sometimes that's the entire title, lol.

Unofficially, if you're a jackass, you'll get banned.
