  • I think you're right about creating demand for more consumer like support, someone in in another comment chain on this post mentioned several Danish municipalities doing something similar with their schools...

Is there a relevant cert to do this kind of work yet? I think it would be interesting to do Linux tech support. Maybe just find a junk laptop and work my way through the Arch wiki breaking and fixing stuff (since my main Linux distro has been incredibly hands off so far)?

  • I'm not sure this is the right community for this rant, lol.

I'm a vegetarian who usually only eats Subway if I'm in bumfuck Egypt and there's no better option, because their salad on bread isn't any worse than their other options. Even if Subway did start carrying tofurky slices (the smoked tofurky slices are fantastic imo) I probably still wouldn't eat there regularly because Subway just isn't good anymore.

McDonald's has the McPlant in some markets but not mine, and economically it's their loss - whenever someone in my friend group wants fast food burgers we end up at Burger King because it hits the same cravings and BK has something I can eat.

  • I'm on the wait list for it at my local library!

I started the job last month so I haven't been able to get through much, I've read Consider Phlebas by Iain Banks' which was not my favorite - it's very 80's sci fi and I've heard the other books are better, and Nevada by Imogen Binnie which I really liked but it's very much written for a trans audience and I don't think it'd resonate for anyone else. I'm doing order fulfillment at a delivery-based convenience store, the pay isn't amazing but listening to audio books and not having to deal with customers is nice, although the delivery drivers can suck just as bad (but we can block them from doing deliveries for a month if they're assholes).

  • The weight distribution could be difficult to get right, they're weighted everywhere. Target has a few I've been tempted by, they're cute and soft, but I can't in good conscience recommend anyone shop there.
