  • Copied from a top level comment I made about the same quote:

This isn't a new suggestion. I remember this being told to people staying in spite of evac orders for a previous nasty storm, iirc it was Key West hearing it that time. It scared the shit out of some people back then and convinced them to leave, sadly the more times you hear something like that the less impact it has. And your neighbor managed to ride it out last time they said that...

  • William Tokajer, police chief of Holmes Beach, told islanders who planned to stay to write their names, dates of birth and social security numbers on their limbs with Sharpies to help identify their bodies after the storm.

  • Do you take requests? For middle school I forgot I had to memorize a poem and remembered at lunch right before class, so I went to the library and grabbed a Shel Silverstein book. "I made an airplane out of stone, I always did like staying home."

The following year, apparently the teacher added a minimum poem length to the assignment requirements.

  • Also don't forget places like Free Geek - I'm glad to see my local one collaborating with YouTubers to get the word out but I'd like to see them do some more local outreach in the runup to W10 EOL (their computers often run Linux but encouraging people to switch to Linux is not their fight, imo). The donation might even be tax deductable.

  • There's a nettle eating championship in Dorset England.

There was apparently a new record set this year.

Ms Hodges, who travelled from Wales, said she was surprised and happy to have won again, although her hands were still painful. "My voice is also an octave or two deeper and I'm a bit huskier," she said. "I did really sting the inside of my mouth and your tongue goes a really funny colour but I was concentrating more on the pain in my hands, so I probably forgot about my mouth. "The dryness is the tricky thing, and chewing them. I think it depends what the weather has been doing - this year they have been a bit hard to chew."

  • I used to lurk on the Pathologic subreddit, the overwhelming consensus there was people recommending they do exactly this and that Pathologic 2 already has enough content to be considered a complete game. I may peek in to see what they think now that it's actually happened though.

EDIT: apparently IPL has announced on Twitter that anyone who backed the P2 Kickstarter is getting P3 for free. And clearly this is different enough to justify a whole new game rather than, say, a paid DLC (and without charging for the Bachelor route they flat out won't have enough money to make the Changeling route).

  • Sure, but there's also the secondary market of people who think it's hilarious to get a photo with a donkey painted like a zebra to trick tourists. Lean into it a bit, like wrestling, it could be fun.

  • I was in high school when Charlie, Francis, and Jeanne rolled through. That was awful, the compounding storm damage really fucked over a lot of people, it was the third one that did in my family's roof, and we had blue tarps over the damage for over a year and we were fortunate enough to be able to call roofers the next day. I was still finding the rare bit of insulation in my stuff years later when I was packing to move.

  • Yeah, depending on how widespread this is, it's probably worse than staingate.

I bought a 2014 MacBook Pro earlier this year, I got a good deal on it partly because it's got severe delamination issues. With dark mode, it doesn't really bother me enough to spend several hours with a bottle of Listerine to fix it yet.

  • It’s unclear who the “they” are that Greene is referring to in this scenario.

It might be Democrats, or maybe it's the same people running the space lasers. Or does she maybe think those are the same groups? Or... you know what, I think I'm happier not knowing how her tiny mind works.

  • Should I be worried? I was distro hopping for a bit and put together a Ventoy drive to make that easier, and I used it to boot the install iso for the distro I ultimately decided on for my gaming laptop. It seemed highly recommended and I didn't know about the Ventoy bros at that point.
