  • Then make a joke about how you felt that way and then realized you were trans. These egg jokes insinuating someone is trans are a pretty clear violation of the egg prime directive.

  • There's a lot of places in Europe that have an 'accident of birth' path to citizenship (jus sanguinis vs jus soli). Here's the ones I found:

    • If you're of Jewish ancestry and your family fled due to the Holocaust, there's a number of European countries that will return your citizenship. Unfortunately my mom's family is Russian Jews.
    • Ireland, if one of your grandparents was a citizen. This applies to my father, but not to me
    • Luxembourg (where I proceed to dox myself, lol) if you've got a direct line male lineage back to Luxembourg between 1850 and 1947 (or male until a female born after 1970-something, Google Luxembourg article 7 citizenship). This actually does apply to me and I know more about it, but I've barely started the process because uprooting my life to flee somewhere safer again is a truly miserable prospect, and the choice of agencies are either a non-profit that I can afford and maybe have some money left over to relocate but they're slower and they don't seem keen to deal with my document mismatch due to being trans and from Florida, or a much faster, more trans friendly and expensive business.
  • You must be up by Tallahassee, it looks like it's only supposed to hit 40 in Orlando, which is cold but not icicles on the orange trees cold.

My mom moved to Florida from Pennsylvania when she was in high school and her first winter there it started snowing during class. All of her classmates rushed to the window, and she was confused because it was "just" snow, lol.

  • They did though. It was shit but I can confirm it existed for reasons that I don't think I'm still under NDA for but I'd rather not risk it... did you know that there's a conspiracy theory about a Nazi base in Antarctica?

  • My roommate mentioned it a few days ago, and I found out this evening that her and her girlfriend are both using it. While it may have started off as an astroturf, it's legit now.

  • I tried, it's not detecting anything. I get the pop-up about SMBus but I don't think that's relevant here? And I found a thread on r/openRGB about my specific laptop but the mods closed the thread before the poster got any help. There's a Lemmy community but based on the locked thread on Reddit I really get the impression they don't want to help.

EDIT: It's possible Acer did something scummy with this laptop, I've found some interesting projects reverse-engineering Acer's crap software to work on Linux and a lot of dead ends and at least one conversation about flashing the bios which no thank you, lol. Also a funny conversation on GitLab "By the way, the link you've provided is my Github 😄". I've looked into this before and after about a half hour I decide I don't care about RGB enough for even the half hour I'd already spent.

  • companion software for RGB

Yeah, that's the one thing I lost when switching to Bazzite. I'm on an Acer Predator and I'm stuck with auto fan controls (which work fine) and I can't customize RGB. There's options to replace the Predator Sense program to get that working on Linux but I just don't care enough to mess with it.

  • I work retail. On the clothing, the vast majority of the tags already are RFID, but for a different kind of automation - it's by SKU or a similar number, and it's already used for inventory counts and locating specific items for online orders. The other stuff isn't because a lot more of that is manufactured by sometime other than the store and would require Coca Cola and so many others to cooperate and someone has to eat the cost of doing it and a twelve pack of coke doesn't come with the issue of having to find a specific style and size of black thong located somewhere in a dozen boxes of underwear that includes five other extremely similar styles of black thong (true story btw, anyone know of less shit jobs hiring in the Twin Cities?).

Also, you would be astonished at the number of detached tags we find, if someone is shoplifting it's incredibly common for people to rip the tags off. Probably because at least one retailer already does something like that.

  • It'd be incredible for deaf people being able to read captions for spoken conversations and to have the other person's glasses translate from ASL to English.

Honestly I'd be a bit shocked if the AI ASL -> English doesn't exist already, there's so much training data available, the Deaf community loves video for obvious reasons.
