  • XY females aren't always sterile! Most of the cases we know of are sterile though, because you don't get tested for this stuff unless something's wrong (the woman in the case study got tested because XY women are common in her family, her daughter is XY).

  • Tunnel vision is an actual vision impairment. Blindness isn't a "can't see anything at all" thing (although sometimes it is), many blind people can see light and dark or very short distances in front of them, it's not what popular culture portrays it as.

A friend of mine in college was blind and had macular degeneration - we met through the anime club and back then she was able to still watch anime by moving it to the corner of her remaining peripheral vision. She pretty effectively ended the dub vs sub argument, dubs were an accessibility thing, lol. The group was big into gaming and played a lot of Rock Band, but she was unfortunately usually left out, we sometimes talked her into singing for a few songs she knew well though.

  • Someone had to link this.

Someone actually opened an issue on the GitHub Page for a Vance slider... I could probably fork it and make one if someone else doesn't beat me to it. What sound clip should I use (or should I use AI and go with "I did not have sectional relations with that loveseat")?

  • Given the "how to use a Belgian waffle maker" vid, I think this is a plausible hallucination - I bet the waffle was invented (or the word waffle started being used) in Belgium 200 years ago. Or maybe the Belgian waffle maker was invented 200 years ago?

    From Wikipedia:

Florian Dacher formalized a recipe for the Brussels Waffle, the predecessor to American "Belgian" waffles, recording the recipe in 1842/43

Maybe that? Now I want waffles.

  • I think significant media outlet uptake is more of a Mastodon metric, Reddit has a few high profile media outlet accounts - Tampa Bay Times I remember seeing quite a bit, they did a lot of good journalism about Scientology because Clearwater, but I think a lot of news companies slept on Reddit while it was worth using.

I think we have hit an interesting level for notability though. I use Bazzite Linux, and last month they sent a broken update for their version with legacy Nvidia drivers. I was one of the first people on the internet reporting having problems in a post here on Lemmy. As I stated to search my problem, I found that someone on the Bazzite forums linked to my Lemmy post because they had the same problem. They never commented in my thread and they may not even have an account. When's the last time you saw a Tildes link in the wild?
