  • github(dot)io markdown pages are free and accouts require no personal information to create.

  • [Tankies'] positioning, further to the left than subreddits like r/communism, r/socialism, and r/Anarchism

Bruh r/communism is unapologetically gonzaloist, they're even further 'left' than we are lol

The figure doesn't even imply that, that sort of graph has no concept of "intensity" for positioning. The colours being different just means that (assuming it was well done) the red communities are more similar among themselves than the orange communities.

So their "further left" is just either a massive ass-pull or they actually think that their clustering model has an implicit politicalcompass system in the position of plotted clusters.

  • I think it might just be because Hexbear is "difficult to understand". If you pick random high score comments from there without context and show it to a data-driven nerd, I doubt they'd even be able to describe what's going on.

But since federation, at some point any (naïve) analysis of either forum will inevitably include a lot of posts from the other. This could be an actually interesting area for social network research (social dynamics between "native" and "foreign" users in an instance), but since there's no ready-made model for this in scikit-learn the Data-Driven bros will never risk actually doing research.

  • Besides being a fucking ugly graph where you can barely read the node labels, I also like that this one pretty much admits democrats are clustered along the other reactionaries.

They also don't describe how they even got that clustering (or the network itself) in the first place. I think it's safe to assume they either nicked it from the web or got an inexperienced intern to just do whatever with a Jupyter notebook.

Is it a network of "common posters"? Of links in sidebar? In cross-posts?

Data science is what happens when "programmers think they are experts in everything that deals with computers" is taken to its most extreme. This field needs a purge, for the sake of all actual statisticians.

Science is when you never show your methodology, because it came to you in a dream a linear regression.

Edit: why the heck is Anarcho_Capitalism plotted between Feminism, feminisms and Radical_Feminism?

  • It's not real, it's an edit.

  • It's not a real Onion article though. It's just an edit of this one about Al-Qaeda. Check the dates, it's the same one.

  • This reporting is some "literally 1984" shit, with the guy thinking of the many ways the "perpetrators" could've been caught on camera in order to be punished for breaking an empty machine. Actually disturbing shit.

But then you read his bio and learn he's just another vampire. His stock portfolio is way more important to him than the drivers' jobs, the safety of the roads or the lives of the people who broke his little toy.

I worked on Google's car team in its early years and am an advisor and/or investor for car OEMs and many of the top startups in robocars, sensors, delivery robots and even some flying cars.

May this car be the first of many.

  • I also disagree with the idea that this interview was directed at Chinese people rather than Trumpist folks. Lots of of US reactionaries have a positive opinion of Putin (often for reactionary reasons), but interviewing him as a show of "freedom of speech" gets bonus points for Republicans for "triggering the libs" who think he is the second coming of Hitler. But they'd also platform actual Hitler if given the chance.

But I need to enthusiastically agree that twitch reaction streamers like Hasan are unbearable to me. It might be a generational thing, but they seem like Gen Z's version of late night show hosts: pretend to be intelligent and informative while also only serving to crack dumb jokes.

From the first couple of minutes of the react, I don't see any reason anybody would gain anything from watching this with the extra hour and a half to just watching the original video. Right away gives an impression that he doesn't give the whole political situation neither the thought nor the seriousness it requires, and that he doesn't really understand what's being said. And I say that as somebody who doesn't really study much Russia.

It's longer and worse, and a proletarian's time is their source of life.

  • A few months ago, the search engine expanded its offering by making available data from OCLC’s proprietary WorldCat database. Anna’s Archive scraped several terabytes of data over the course of a year and published roughly 700 million unique records online, for free.

Scraping data is now "hacking". Every single computer science department will have to close its doors and surrender their research datasets to the police.

  • Halfway through, I didn't notice any new interesting information. For anybody who has been paying any attention, his positions are the same as always (maybe a bit clearer on the origins of Ukraine), but now being broadcasted to millions of Statesian reactionaries.

I think the content is far less important than the impact this is going to have on the Republicam base's position on the war. We might have a gosh darn "anti-war republican campaign" this year.

But it was very "interesting" to see Putin trying to explain to Tucker Carlson of all people that Nazis are still around and denazification is important.

Live editing if interesting things catch my eye.

Edit 1: at around 1:09:00 Carlson asks him whether is there any truth of him having ambitions to conquer all of the continent. And Putin replies in the clearest way possible, with live translation, in one of the most warched interviews of the year that: no, that'd be dumb, it's just US military propaganda to get more budget.

Again, nothing new for anybody paying attention, but could do a nice agitation video for tiktok/shorts if anybody here is good with that.

Edit 2: if you want to die from blood alcohol, take a shot every time Putin mentions interactions with other important figures, but adds something like "I'll not give any details".

  • From the comments in the video, it seems one of the pictures is some AI generated thing, where one of the persons looks like a minor.

There's a whole discussion on the legality of AI-generated child porn (and even of drawn child porn in general) that I'm not willing to learn much about, but AFAIK it's a bit of a "it's up in the air, the courts decide, depends on the country" situation.

  • I wonder if he'll double down on the "it's just a joke", like

It was just a prank to make y'all think I have child porn on my PC

It was just a prank that I got arrested for having child porn on my PC

It'll be one of the few times I'll thank cops for their good work.

  • I was planning to post it with a little summary in GenZhou once I finished and digested it. It is so long and complete that I think it deserves a bit of an introduction to grab people's interest.

  • That's not what they're dunking on. They're just dunking on the typo, "Unites States"

  • Wonder if AES countries are doing anything cool to honour him. Haven't heard about anything being planned.

  • It's certainly not a bit, but I got the article on mastodon and didn't think to check who the author was. Apparently she's part of the batch of political commentators who went Qanon-mad as soon as the pandemic hit.

I still think the Wikipedia article is alright, specially since it's very exhaustive. There's still some "foreign dictatorships" scare there that makes a lot of sense in retrospect though.

At least she stopped posting eventually (?)

  • The paragraph right before the alternative medicine section. Edited for better display.

The Croatian language Wikipedia exemplifies one danger of a consensus-focused model. Over the past decade, a group of far-right ideologues gradually seized control of the site in an internet putsch so thorough that the Croatian Minister of Education now actively discourages students from using it, warning “that a large part of the content of the Croatian version of Wikipedia is not only dubious but also [contains] obvious forgeries, and therefore we invite them to use more reliable sources of information.”

Somehow, he still includes “Wikipedia in English and in other major languages of the world” in “reliable sources,” clearly not grasping the reason Croatian Wikipedia went so far off the rails.136 In 2009, fewer than 10 conservative administrators began consolidating their hold on power, banning and suspending certain editors for their liberal or moderate views on hot-button topics. Much of the controversial material centers on the Ustaša, a fascist group that operated from 1929 to 1945, serving as a puppet government under the Third Reich and massacring hundreds of thousands of political dissidents, Serbs, Jews, Roma, and other racial and ethnic minorities. Their crimes have all but disappeared from Croatian Wikipedia, and other articles have also been changed to reflect a strong bias against Serbs and LGBT people.137

The situation remains unresolved because to “fix“ it would require rewriting the rules of Wikipedia, in which consensus – not truth – is the goal. If Croatian Wikipedians find “collection camp“ more accurate a term than “concentration camp“ to describe the wartime prisons of Eastern Europe where racial and ethnic minorities and dissidents were rounded up and worked to death, Wikipedia can't step in and change that consensus without running afoul of its entire ecosystem of rules. Ultimately, politically-motivated historical revisionism is no different than scientific Skepticism, except one is considered permissible in polite company.

  • That second one looked so much like satire that I had to check, and it's real.

  • I'd bet it's because of access to maritime trade routes. Dependent capitalism has historically had some trouble advancing deeper into continents due to lack of required infrastructure (trains), so the most "developed" regions tend to be by rivers, ports and sea. So you both get this local bourgeoisie dependent on foreign trade as well as making it easier to deploy foreign troops for intervention, with carriers and the like.

But it also turns out there just aren't that many north-pointing peninsula countries in the world, specially outside the Mediterranean Sea. Best I could think of were the Guyanas (both the nominally independent and the French territory) and Suriname, and Israel is sort of north-pointing. There were also some East-West divides in South America, like the Triple Alliance War.

  • Can't stop playing Minecraft, videogames are the greatest counter-revolutionary tool of the bourgeoisie.
