  • Oh hello. Somehow, I missed the mention. As @useless_modern_god@aussie.zone said, I do post some new and old Australian tunes in the Alternative Nation community, but you need something more specialist/specific.

For that, I would recommend Oz music shows on things like 3RRR, 3PBS and also on Double & Triple J. Check out their websites. ✌️

  • I also quite enjoyed the single series of High Fidelity that was made. Slightly less light-hearted.

  • According to this and a couple of other sources, yes, some species of Banksia have been used for their nectar. It’s possible that seeds and fruit may also be edible but don’t take my word for it.

  • The climate there would be good growing conditions. I hope it doesn’t cause issues though. Introduced species can sometimes be problematic.

  • Proteaceae is a different family, it seems, but is also Gondwanan…so the similarities probably stem from that.

  • The Melaleuceae tribe of plants is mostly centred in Australia, but belong to the family Myrtaceae which was originally from the supercontinent Gondwana …according to the internet. It seems that there are indeed plants of this family in Hawaii and some of the species have flowers that look similar.

  • Callistemon! Edit - Callistemon citrinus has been reclassified as Melaleuca citrina. AKA the common red bottlebrush, crimson bottlebrush or lemon bottlebrush. It's endemic to Eastern Australia. Therefore...

PS - not weird in the slightest

  • I get up when I want, except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awakened by the dustmen. I put my trousers on, have a cup of tea and I think about leaving me house. I feed the pigeons, I sometimes feed the sparrows too, it gives me a sense of enormous wellbeing. And then I'm happy for the rest of the day, safe in the knowledge there will always be a bit of my heart devoted to it.

  • This most recent one was from Craftzero.

  • Non-alcoholic beer has come along in leaps and bounds and there are many very drinkable beverages available now.

For the past 2 years, I've bought a non-alc beer Advent Calendar, which is basically a case of beer with perforated "doors" that you get a can from for the first 24 days of December and then about 4 cans for 25 December itself. Only one or two that I didn't like enough to not drink them and several I thought were amazing.

As I live in Australia, the majority are from here. There were some from the US and Europe, though. Some that spring to mind are : Athletic, Løwlander, Vandestreek, Sheep in Wolf's Clothing, Bravus, Big Drop.

  • I just got back from the CBD, the incident would have occurred sometime between 6-7pm-ish. I didn’t see it becuase I was having dinner near the GPO, but walked up Bourke St about an hour ago. Lots of police, fire, ambulance, sirens and police tape.

  • 🎵 What a man, what a man, what a man

What a mighty good man (You got to say it again now)

What a man, what a man, what a man

What a mighty good man (Yeah, he's a mighty, mighty good man)

What a man, what a man, what a man

What a mighty good man (Yes, he is)

What a man, what a man, what a man

What a mighty good man (Oh, uh, yeah) 🎵

  • I got myself a Caitlin Foord Matildas shirt today.
