Most jobs do nothing to actually help society. Our society is not designed towards the benefit of the many but towards the generation of capital. Those sometimes overlap, but usually they don't.

You're either hanging out with the wrong people or leaving out some important details. I don't know a single guy who has ever been charged with rape, though I know a couple who should have been.
Drugs helped me a lot. I never got much out of therapy (maybe I'm the asshole, but I think most of what I'm anxious about is very reasonable), but antidepressants just make me feel more like me. The come-up can be really rough, but once they're established you start feeling more like a person and less like a Rube Goldberg machine of sensory torture.
This is how my anxiety manifests, especially the bit about not being able to tolerate the smell of food, and it's really terrible. I never went quite as long as you, but I did survive on a saltine a day for a couple weeks. Godspeed finding a cause, I know it's frustrating.
