  • zst

Been hearing about this. Peazip seems to support it.
Is zstd better than lzma in compressed size or is the optimality weighing in both compression time and compressed size?
Will try it out. Thank you

    Arch Linux

Opensuse Leap, because I have a nvidia laptop. Thinking about switching to Pop OS, as ubuntu gets more packages and simple online tutorials on them.

    Graphene OS

I'm on a random Chinese android. It's cheap and decent, but I don't know if it would handle flashing a new rom. Graphene aims at support for Pixel, right?

  • A book on how to make weapons or improve trade, so that people will try it out.
But after the first 3 items or so(to show that the book is legit) we shift to stuff that accelerates science very much.
Get them to create electricity and radio waves earlier.
    Society gets to progress faster.

Tho, who should it be sent to? Someone religious? In that case it'd be better to mask it as a religious text, where god is revealing the workings of the universe and encouraging humans to find out more about his design by observation and experimentation?

  • I'm currently not that active on lemmy. But I'm Indian and the community seems decent and I would like to help out, if no else has already volunteered.

Though, I'm mostly a mobile/Jerboa user. Would it need special apps?

  • Does it mean that one shouldn't think of others as small or inferior? That one is seeing others as small because of their thirst for(or lack of access to) power or so?

Which language is this in? Some words seem familiar. Hindi(an Indian language) has the word khayal(thought).

  • 100's of open tabs... And 100's of bookmarks.
It's like that for me on Android.
Searching and multi-selecting bookmarks is not available on fenix, so will have to open or organise them individually. Or will have to use sync and organise them on desktop.

So, it's a mix of tabs n bookmarks for me.
Have around 400+ tabs now, most are in the inactive section tho. Slowly working on them.

  • How is it for dualbooting with Win11?
Currently on OpenSuse Leap(on a separate hdd) because many linux recommendation articles suggested that it had the best out of box support for Nvidia n secure boot.
But debian/ubuntu-based systems do have the advantage of being popular. More tutorials n packages readily available.

I think I've read that Ubuntu also supports nvidia drivers, but I had read that snap is polarising, with some people saying that it slows down the startup.

  • I have a Tecno spark 8c and it can't download attachments using mobile data from the Gmail app. Works when I'm on wifi. Must be some app like the Download manager having an error or some metered connection thing(I did check for that for apps like Download Manager n Downloads).
Workaround for gmail me was logging on gmail in chrome. K-9 mail also works. So it had workarounds.

Recently it started affecting Tachiyomi downloads too. Can't really ignore it now when I'm not connected to wifi. Did check for it, but didn't find a reason/solution. Been thinking about a factory reset, but not really keen on it as I would have to backup files(important ones do have copies) n app settings.

  • Don't organisations already follow this? Atleast for their workers.
People getting into a public or private job have to show that they are eligible.

Regarding meritocracy at level of society:
I think it's going to be difficult in reality.

    1. Who appraises the merit of people? Who defines, maintains and updates the standards/methods used for the appraisal?
    2. Is there a system for continuous quality check? It'd be needed to maintain the system as a meritocracy.
    3. How is the quality check system preserved in the system?
    4. Who appraises those who appraise?

In the case of an organisation, the leaders/owners of the org can choose workers with merit. But the owners themselves are not appraised, right? Unless they are in some co-operative org or so.

Perfect meritocracy seems very difficult to implement for the whole of society.

I think democracy(which gives due importance to scientific temper and obviously human life) is a decent enough system. We can iterate on it to bring up the merit in the society and its people as a whole
