  • Bruh those groups of votes (if there was a positive vote and not a court battle) came at the end of large, vitriolic, sometimes violent movements. Suffrage, civil rights, gay Rights, these things weren't pleasantly discussed then voted on and passed. There were bricks thrown through windows and buildings burnt down.

And then many times they were based on a supreme Court decision that could be overturned, like Jim Crow and Roe v Wade.

Almost any time civil rights and representation has moved forward, it's been at the end of a sword. It gets removed the exact opposite way, the slow churn of the political machine being co-opted by bad players. Even when you see a military coup, it was at the end of a movement.

Voting won't change shit UNLESS you have fought to get what you want on the ballot or else politicians will ignore you to fundraise, that simple imo.

  • Look up the Meiji Restoration in Japan. They went from a feudal, near-medieval society to an industrial society between 1870 and 1920, by the time they were done they are participating in both world wars.

You actually don't have to suspend your disbelief so hard here, it's the most believable part of the story of people who can bend elements with tai chi

  • Fuck I feel you, it sucks but was the whole point of why they did it, cause it made Reddit less useful and more annoying. People who've spent years answering questions that would be referenced from the thousands to the millions were deleted. They didn't want Reddit to continue to benefit even if it hurts everyone else to.

  • It's funny cause yeah, John Wayne Gacy was a clown, and if you ask something or someone to describe him in one word, you might get clown with no other context.

When you see Gacy described in books, movies, videos, etc. they usually list both clown and serial killer in the title and show a picture of him as a clown.

How many words do I need to ask for before I get murderer added to Christopher Columbus, or genocide with Ghengis Khan. Like the opinion on Christopher Columbus only really changed starting in 2005ish, before that they were singing kids songs about that sociopath since the 40's. That's a lot of history of "explorer".

Like one word removes context no matter what, who would they be a yard stick used in any sense?

  • Native Americans had the term skin walker to denote animals in human form or vice versa.

There's the obvious explanation we accept, with almost no evidence that it was referring to witchcraft or shamanism. Maybe a rogue god.

But what if it's a way to dehuminize someone to make them easier to out-group. A person from another tribe, a person who's committed a grievous sin, like murder.

Is it describing a mythical creature, or the soullessness of the expression of a murderer. Or "rheumy eyes" of the sick. Something you need to desperately escape to keep your group whole.

  • You're not wrong, just maybe purposefully missing the point? Actually, the majority of gun violence is suicides, have to be careful looking at the data to separate violent crime and suicide. But yeah I would agree with you except almost every other City is experiencing drops in crime and gun violence rates, even New York! Places like Florida have 20% increases in violent crime year over year in their largest cities.

    https://time.com/6294021/ron-desantis-crime-florida-data/

You see Orlando catching up with Chicago there, that's wild! So yeah, a lot of that violent crime is gang activity, but gangs use guns more in "blue cities" in "red states" then their "blue state" counterparts. Data is old though and Florida is currently attempting to go through a data collection sea change to match FBI recommendations.

*Need to note, the pandemic crime levels went absolutely insane everywhere, and just about the entire country saw general crime rate increases in the 30-50% range, this is specifically a discussion of gun violence.

  • If you read it, you'll actually notice there's a specifically different flavor of gun violence in both urban and sub urban areas in states with more restrictive gun laws (generally but not always blue states) and states with less restrictive gun laws (generally but not always red states).

The casual gun violence in red states is also very high, road rage, bars, in addition to areas where the crime is already high, like areas with gang violence. The amount of people dying per capita is higher in red states.

It's actually both a huge and growing issue in red states specifically. Plus the guns people are using in crimes in states with more restrictive gun laws are coming from the states with less restrictive gun laws.

Basically, the more people who have guns, the more likely those people are to use those guns. Go figure.

Those figures are per capita however. So while there are more gun deaths in California, you are significantly more likely to be killed in New Mexico to gun violence.

  • You are totally ignorant to how odd and out of place your comments seem to people reading them. You came in with a strange non sequitur that wasn't really relevant to the discussion at all, then got all weird when people engaged you on it, like your version of whatever was going on here didn't happen.

You are the odd one out here! It was fun to read tho.

  • For those of you listening at home, the young constable has just thrown up into his helmet. This is the longest continuous vomit seen on Broadway since John Barrymore puked over Laertes in the second act of Hamlet in 1941.

  • Bringing race or intersectionality into a class debate with the intention of poisoning the well, IS propaganda from the ruling classes. The wealthy elite may look like the monopoly guy in many peoples heads, and that guy is real, don't get me wrong (especially in the West), and he represents a huge amount of the wealth and power.

But the class struggle exists in parallel, class exists inside race, Indians are suffering under a class system that is being forced on them by other Indians.

If you don't acknowledge that the oligarchy exists to exploit, you will never address the injustices inside a homogenous culture. If you don't acknowledge that class alone is plenty of reason to dehuminize, you are not engaging with reality.

That all exists on the race and gender side too. We're all in this together.

  • Right, like who do you think is providing the other side of this opinion? The fucking media. What is this magic "other" media that needs to step in?

Media outlets have been either totally co-opted by the types of organizations they are supposed to blow the whistle on or they are nakedly partisan in order to have a reliable audience.

The call is coming from inside the fucking house, lady!

  • The Chinese spam machine was operating at the same time as the Russian system back in 2016, it was hilariously ineffective because apparently the sensibilities are so different. Memes didn't land, insults are odd sounding.

What I found really interesting in this article is they've changed or adjusted, or maybe just made more visible the effective part of this campaign. Targeting Chinese ex-pats, or Chinese abroad, even ethnically Chinese people who are first or second generation citizens of Western countries.

It's a way to reach out and maintain influence through fear, nowhere is safe sort of thing.

  • I feel like nobody in this thread has been to the actual, official 6th floor museum in Dallas. They play up every "conspiracy" explanation you can imagine.

They have the exact spot in the book depository (the book depository is the museum) where Oswald was shooting, but they also have the alphabet agency sound dissection where the actual experts predict multiple shots occurred with a diarama of where the shots may have eminated from.

They have like the suit of the guy who shot Oswald and they really talk on printed images about how weird it all is.

When you go outside they have plaques on both the grassy knoll and the area directly behind it saying this is where possible other shooters were.

I think the plaque commemorating the death says allegedly.
