  • Sometimes I tell myself time travel is possible and it's exclusively the domain of those who care about our welfare; this is the best timeline they can give us.

Sometimes it comforts me. Sometimes it hits as having shit faith in humanity.

And I know we aren't being shephereded in some Travelers kinda way. It just entertains me when the world stops making sense.

  • Thanks, I like the look and implementation of that. My hub replacement may (or may not) have voice built in. Either way, this may be the way to go.

As conext: I've been planning to use the new on-device wake word tech with a few ESP32-S3-BOX-3 scheduled for delivery later this month. Since I posted the above, I've learned the planned ship date has moved to late May. (shrug) Now my local voice assistant plan is delayed.

The ESP32s would be my voice & presence detection devices (if they work as I expect). The hub replacement can almost be dumb, although I am picturing it running in a full-screen browser window - like found in what you linked and possibly using that very solution.

  • I'll add: ideally I'd like the slideshow to work while we're in the area, and for the screen to go dark after a set time and/or HA knows we're in bed. I can have a radar/sensor flag if we're in the room, so any hardware wouldn't need to have it.

  • The most organized action would be a rogue actor. Those mostly only exist on the side that's heavy into personal rights and its less evident on the side that cares about everyone's rights.

If you care about others... Then you care about others. Makes a person less likely to go rogue or violent. Been like this since what? The 60's?

It's when enough people are directly affected that they hit critical mass. Social media (like this) is a drug that tells us we're doing something when almost always... We aren't. We're commiserating, but not planning, organizing turnout, or anything else that would directly help the downtrodden.

  • From the article summary in this same thread:

"polls showed Republicans overwhelmingly opposed Proposition 1."

    What Yes means:

A YES vote on this measure means: Counties would need to change some of the mental health care and drug or alcohol treatment services provided currently to focus more on housing and personalized support services. The state could borrow up to $6.4 billion to build (1) more places where people could get mental health care and drug or alcohol treatment and (2) more housing for people with mental health, drug, or alcohol challenges.

A NO vote on this measure means: Counties would not need to change the mental health care and drug or alcohol treatment services provided currently. The state could not borrow up to $6.4 billion to build more places where people could get mental health care and drug or alcohol treatment and more housing for people with mental health, drug, or alcohol challenges.

I'm confused as to how you arrived at your conclusion. Can you clarify?
