  • I've been playing it for a while now, quite fun. It reminded me of tech modpacks that incorporated Pixelmon in Minecraft, although this is much more refined. It has much less of a Pokemon vibe as people give it credit for. Other than mounts, you have no control of what abilities your pal uses, and it is much less focused on rock-paper-scissors and more on the terrain and damage delivery because of its real-time FPS nature.

  • Grimdark? That's not the way I remember it.

They moved away with procedural generation when they worked on the creation kit first released with Morrowind, which has gotten a lot of use since then: Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4. So, uhm, I don't think it had gone that bad for BGS just because it's latest release is a flawed update of the engine.

Daggerfall is a fun slog where everything is pseudo procedurally generated and the boredom aspect comes when you become aware of the general repetitiveness of the engine, but it is very grindable because it is essentially all radiant quests and because it has very dynamic systems - which also work out to very exploitable systems to easily reach godlike power with little effort. Because you don't have to listen to exposition and can just go nuts on the gameplay, it's very replayable. Unfortunately, they seem to want to go back to the Daggerfall procedural generation system without really having the engine, which was designed to move away from that, configured for it, and it's going to be much harder.

  • Honestly, wouldn't be surprised, it goes hand in hand with my experience and other's experience with them. If Ruud isn't in on it, he sure is an expert about keeping quiet about it and leaving it to those responsible. But do take pictures and specially web.archives, which can't really be faked, and just keep the link to it saved somewhere.

Little else that can be done about it, I tried to get the instance he made false allegations in involved because he had apparently linked to CP and CSAM content as proof, but the SFW "No porn" instance he made the accusations in (yes, he used another alt to potentially put another competing instance in trouble) didn't even seem to care about all the NSFW links that were potential links to pedophilia themselves, so I would say the degree of impassiveness is pervasive, hypocritically so, which is odd for a social network alternative that tries to sell itself as an alternative to the abuses in other social networks. Took evidence, reported the claims of CP and CSAM to the appropriate authorities, saved the ticket numbers, and moved on. Maybe there is something one could do, since it's clear who it is and libel, abuse of authority, and making false allegations do seem like things that would be prosecuted, but the cost of going the legal route would probably be a lot more than any compensation or consequence they could get as a result.

  • That's not the same thing, kerploosh dug around and found that I had responded to a top level comment and not to the thread directly, and this comment was removed but also prevented the comments hanging from it from displaying. I'll update the comment.

But I know what you mean. The modlog hardly matters if the interface is so non-intuitive that you can't easily tell what has happened. What you are describing could be due to federation synchronization issues, I've been noticing a lot of those lately. Don't get me wrong, there's definitely at least one top lemmy.world admin who is still in the team and is an asshole who will happily make shit up while sweeping problems they created under the rug, but lemmy is also buggy enough on its own, it seems.

  • It really doesn't feel like it. It's just been really good for Baldur's Gate 3. But the article is really focusing on the retro-style RPGs and PC re-releases that have been making the rounds. Here's the whole list.

    • Baldur's Gate 3
    • Phantom Liberty
    • Octopath Traveller 2
    • Star Ocean Second Story R
    • Live A Live
    • Lunacid
    • Loop8
    • Persona 5 Tactica
    • Disgaea 7
    • Sea of Stars
    • Etrian Odyssey
    • Trails to Azure
    • Rhapsody 2 and 3
    • Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord
    • Wizardry: The Five Ordeals

    .

Damn, so yeah, not really that click-baity.

  • Israeli neozionist troll factory attempts have never really shied away from the public, with the most notable example being Act.IL, but that doesn't make them harmless. Giving your identity away like this is the same as giving away your identity to Scientologists, expect a serious degree of gaslighting and bullshit to be headed the way of your personal and professional life.

And I do mean serious, because with extremists and radicals getting the reigns of government thanks to Netanyahu, foreign intervention having been normalized to such an excessive degree, and countries letting them get away with it so freely, expect the requirements to get labeled as part of a "problem group" to become significantly easier to achieve. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mossad#Europe

  • The only comment I deleted was the one hanging off of https://sh.itjust.works/comment/6657926 (which was basically me pointing out the same thing I later commented elsewhere about, the comment not showing up). Which makes sense, because it doesn’t show up.

If I had deleted https://sh.itjust.works/comment/6657926 itself, you should not be able to see it. But you can, and anyone can. What they can’t do is see it from the thread discussion itself, https://sh.itjust.works/post/11079972 .

And no, the comment I actually did delete does not show in my history … because I deleted it.

It may simply be a data inconsistency issue from one of the times sh.itjust.works went kaput, although it's weird that a comment that previously showed up under a thread, got upvoted on it, and is still under said thread stops showing up as part of it to readers of the thread. It reminds me of shadowbans.

  • Looked through the guy's channel and their content, and basically, it's rant after rant after rant. Why should I trust a user that does little to establish objectivity outside of toxic rants? Where's the video establishing this guy's credentials? Where are the video's actually praising the alternatives that do it right? Drama sells, I guess that's why I keep seeing people here trying to kick this dead horse of theirs.

  • awk is supposed to be simpler. If it isn't, just use your favorite scripting language. It comes from a period of time when a lot of the scripting languages weren't as easy to use or readily available.

  • Public transport is good, but has it's own problems. You can't bring the sort of goods you can with your own transport (or you have to rely on the store to do it, which still leaves the problem of cars on the road). They become superspreader events during flu/covid season. If you have to take care of an elderly family member, they may have problems getting on them and finding seats, which can become a health hazard for them. Scooters have also been banned from some forms of public transport due to the risk of poor quality poorly maintained lithium batteries exploding, which still leaves the last mile problem.
