  • Although, given some further thought, isn't the double-slit experiment being discussed here sort of demonstrative of a "detection" without detection, i.e. the wave pattern vs. the particle pattern emerging after "detection/measurement/interaction"? Or am I misunderstanding it?

Is there another way they operate/appear outside of the wave-particle that eludes observation?

  • I charge my phone over night with battery protection limiting charge to 85%.

How do you go about that? Is it a setting with your phone, or...?

  • What is a SME or SMB in this context? Mentioning @oce@jlai.lu in case you're not sure what they meant by SMB either.

  • Why's that? Won't it simply make the seat delicious?

  • ...Cats are domesticated?

  • The issue is that you can’t detect photons without interacting with them.

Can't...So far, right? Like there hasn't been a method developed to somehow detect indirectly without interaction? I don't know enough about this to know how one might go about that, but I imagine those that know more might love to given whatever knowledge may be gained.

  • Perhaps to get betta insight? 😜

  • There's a tutorial?

  • Thanks for the reply! I'll have to give that a look!

  • Did you find Meshenger yet? It's not exactly what you're after as it still relies on a local wifi network for comms, but it's one of the closer apps I've found to what you describe.

That said, what's the app you found that lets you transmit asynchronous voice messages? Sounds kinda cool!

  • Yeah, I mean, we all know it's to keep the chips in suspended animation until the bag is opened and their lives concluded for snacks, right?

  • But whose responsibility is it to monitor their internet access? Mom and Dad need to step up and actually parent their children!

Yeah...Isn't this likely unconstitutional given the first amendment? This strikes me as somewhat similar to attempts to regulate video games "for making children violent" or the like. At best this may result in TikTok releasing a children's variation of the app with greater restrictions in terms of use and content, supposing something like that doesn't already exist.

Similar to how YouTube has a variation of their app for children, if I remember right.

  • Are those the jobs where you're the one running the business?

  • You're aware of the EFF, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, right? It's one of I'm sure several groups that organizes & strives to push back against malicious action from tech companies, as well as over-encroachment from governments (at times itself coming from tech company lobbying). It's based in the United States though, if memory serves, so others may want to chip in and mention similar groups for their region/nation.

At the same time, services/platforms that don't rely on ads pretty much always welcome donations, e.g. Wikipedia, Internet Archive, Gutenberg, as well your resident Fediverse sites, so also keep those in mind.

  • ...You ever wonder if Musk inadvertently benefited from being backed into buying Twitter, merely by virtue of much of the media's addiction to Twitter leading to their incessant reporting on it and his BS on there?

It's like Trump all over again, rather than any particular skill at media manipulation, a lot of the media can't help but report on these assholes because of a mix of the clicks/views they draw, and their own weird social media addictions.

  • Perhaps it's exemplary advice on what one should sleep on for a change?

  • The thing is, I don’t think a guide is really needed to install Linux. Most of it is pretty straight-forward. (The only tricky bit that comes to mind is making the USB that you’ve put your distro on bootable. That probably isn’t obvious; and it might not be obvious how to get your computer to boot from a USB anyway if you’ve never done it before.)

It's been awhile since I installed a Linux distro...Have some of them improved guidance related to allocating disk space on install? I remember that was one of the parts that I wasn't entirely confident I'd handled properly the last few times I did so. Something something swap, something /, and the like.

  • This reminds me, I know chores are one thing, but similar stuff comes up in creative work and like...How does anyone convince themselves to complete that stuff?

I'll jot down an idea, then start a draft or outline, but then can't be bothered to polish it up and get it to a state to share.

  • that is a beautiful thing for my registration-exhausted ass
