Context is an important tool when determining authorial intent, but one can investigate a piece under the frame of the death of the author too should they want to understand more what they personally gain from a work or what someone else entirely gets out of it.

Am I understanding correctly that you're suggesting an extension of death of the author to death of the industry to discern what one draws from art?

To clarify, I'm asking in the sense of art made within larger businesses/corporations, wherein artists often give up some or all of the ownership of their work. Think of the fraught relationships between bands and their music labels, actors/directors and studios, developers/writers and publishers, etc.

That could be part of it, but I was thinking more in terms of sharing resources like what you linked in your other comment as well as other methods to encourage community activity.

Also technical stuff like what to be aware of regarding banner/image resolutions, language settings, handling community handoffs to other moderators, etc. Basically a mix of more specific Lemmy support and general community building/outreach discussion.

Each time I've read into self-hosting it often sounds like opening stuff up to the internet adds a bunch of complexity and potential headaches, but I'm not sure how much of it is practicality vs being excessively cautious.

Don't you mean a "phablet"? 😜 If that awful name had stuck, I wonder if it might have dissuaded the device enlargement.

While I don't disagree with most of what you mention, I do have to ask on a couple points...Isn't it probably significantly more expensive for them to make foldable screens than to make a smaller phone? Also wouldn't a larger device mean more materials involved which may mean similar or just as high costs as to engineer something more compact?

Also these are open questions, I'm not expecting you personally to know one way or another, your comment simply inspired them. If someone else has some insight on them, would be interested to read it!

I think it’s because nobody really wants to be the first to comment and offer an opinion that might end up going against the grain when a thread develops. There’s no ‘reading the room’ as it were.

Why offer an opinion when one can ask something about the post instead?

Tbh it wouldn't necessarily have to be lasers (not that I'll say no to lasers), but it followed from the OP so thought I'd ask. Do they use lasers for some tombstones...? 🤨

Mm, I should clarify. I'm not really after advice so much as reading about how others go about the two to get a sense of where others may be coming from and only incidentally some stuff that I might try.

Now that you mention it, are there laser etching, or engraving tools that may be available outside of industrial applications should one want to record their silly thoughts in a more permanent form?

It's a first gen Moto X, been kicking myself ever since I realized the mistake. If it's the sort that can power on with battery removed, that would be great! (I'd migrated the microSD card from it before the swelling, so it's the internal storage I'd be trying to get at btw.)

Piggybacking off this question, what would be a safe way to extract data from a phone with a swollen battery 'cause you forgot lithium batteries gobble electricity up and go all Popeye the Sailor when they've been used awhile?

Have you tried making threads in the larger games communities in the meantime to see if there are others interested?
