  • It feels like there's few pranks these days that don't end up being cruel. We have enough horrifyingly outrageous things in the news, that if the prank is trying to make us think something horrible happened that didn't, we sure don't need that. On the other hand, if it's trying to make us think that something good happened, but it didn't, then that's a really perverse cruelty.

  • It's the camera my mom used, too. It was super popular, it seems like every family had one.

Taking pictures was such a different experience in those days, knowing you only had as many pictures as was on the roll (like 20 I think it's what we bought), and you couldn't see how they came out until you had them developed.

  • We've had a lot of cats, some of which have wanted to scratch more than the litter. The simplest solution is to get a litterbox that has a cover. Some of those have doors, too, and you might have to remove that because some cats won't use them. A side benefit of the cover is that you won't get much litter flung out of the box.

  • Yeah, there's kind of a big flaw in this. I'm in California, too. It's a huge state, and there re giant swaths of it that don't have especially high cost of living, but the population centers like LA and San Francisco are very, very expensive. Taking the median isn't going to give you a realistic answer for most of us.

  • That part is so frustrating. The other branches are the "checks and balances" we've always been taught to trust in, but the Republicans have become a cult that's infiltrated all of the branches, nullifying those checks and balances. It's horrifying.

  • Not sure why some people are disagreeing - it for sure fits the definition. I'm not exactly sad about it - Musk is helping to rip apart the country and I have a hard time blaming people who feel that helping to rip apart one of his companies is about all they can do - but committing arson to further an ideology is terrorism.

  • Science showed things like climate change, which was hurting the bottom line of giant corporations who donate huge amounts of money to Republicans, so Republicans convinced their base that science is against God, and that it's all part of the evil woke liberals thing. So now anything that comes from science, including vaccines, is tainted.

  • Me too! I've voted consistently liberal, including for every minimum wage hike on the ballot. Also, I'm on the very trailing edge of the boomer generation, and much of the era you're talking about was before my time. I did reasonably well because I was a computer science grad when that was an earlier thing, but still, I had it easier than my kids (who we've tried to help a much a we can).
