  • It's funny, I've always looked taking pictures, and I'm old enough to have started well before digital. I love looking at the old pics, but since I took most of them, I'm not in very many. Kids are grown, I'm almost retired, and I think the family only recently realized there aren't many pics of me.

  • I'm with you, but I think there's a happy medium. Like, I don't need to take pictures of the food I get at a restaurant or a selfie at every single place I go. But I've always enjoyed looking back at pictures of people I know or am related to living their lives. I'm older and my parents are both dead. They took a lot of pictures on slides, and I recently scanned them - about 1000 pictures - to jpg. So many wonderful pictures, some I've never seen.

But even then, my mom took a bunch of pictures of trees from the car window while they were on a driving trip. Completely unremarkable.

  • After months and months of Trump being the favorite, and every news article making me more depressed, it's really nice to see articles about him swirling the drain. You're right, it's not going to change anything for me, but actually having more than tiny crumbs of hope makes consuming stuff like this more desirable.

  • To me, a typical guy dressing as a woman to be funny or whatever is a different thing than a guy who just generally likes to dress as a woman, and both are much different things than trans women. I have zero issue with any of them. Only part of Trump's base would have an issue with the first one, but much more of them have an issue with the second, and most have an issue with the third.

  • That first one looked like a guy dressing as a woman for a costume party or something. This one... I'm not sure.

I don't care what anyone wears, but since these chucklefucks are trying to make laws against people in drag, I hope these get verified and the hypocrisy given a lot of air time.

  • That's a really strange "or." .world has only existed for about a year, since the big reddit exodus, and it's just an instance, running Lemmy software on a server. The Lemmy software was first released five years ago, but that wasn't the beginning of the fediverse. Like all fediverse apps, Lemmy makes use of the Activity Pub protocol, which came out like a year earlier.

  • I'm with you. I wasn't sure we should stick with Biden, but I wasn't sure we shouldn't, either. Being an incumbent does count for something, and I'd never heard people being that excited about Harris. To be it was whatever gave us the best chance of keeping Trump from winning.

But I couldn't be happier with how it's turning out, and I very much hope we can keep the momentum going.

  • Kennedy Lindsey had a short sword, a steel tactical whip, a collapsible baton, pepper spray, a butterfly knife and a flashlight taser in her possession when a U.S. Secret Service officer searched her backpack, according to an FBI affidavit.

But it was a peaceful crowd who just happened to gather to hear the president speak, and then wanted to do some sightseeing of the capitol.

  • Gee, you think the guy who was the first president not to support a peaceful transfer of power, who tried to subvert the government by an organized mob, and who hasn't expressed any wrongdoing at all might not be nice about it this time?

My only quibble is that the transfer of power itself will be fine, because it would be between Biden and Harris. Trump wouldn't have any official power, and anything he and his supporters do couldn't be interpreted as official acts.
