An American military officer who first served on the side of the revolutionaries during the American revolutionary war. Part way through the war, he defected to the British side and fought against his former allies.
His name has become synonymous with "traitor" in the USA. A bit like Vidkun Quisling in Norway who collaborated with the Nazis after Germany's occupation of Norway in WW2.
Knowing the UK populace, this shit will get a lot of support. Gotta spy on those climate activists, Muslims, black people, south Asians, LGBTQ+ groups, trade unions, feminist groups, anti-war groups, and any other subversive elements in society.
I recently began using Pixelfed. It is actually Instagram if it returned to it's roots. I was an early user of Instagram and I remember what it was like before Facebook bought it.
No ads, no cynical political disinfo, no "stories" and "reels", no sponsored posts, no content manipulation algorithm, no bullshit. Pixelfed is Instagram if it was completely gutted and returned to how it used to be. A million times better.
Sadly the small userbase is it's only drawback. But you can learn to live with that.
