  • Maybe you’re confusing being aware with specific choices of how to respond. Being aware is always good, but you can always argue with what people choose to do with that knowledge.

  • Probably. There’s New College in Florida with curriculum controlled by DeSantis and his loyal followers - that should lose accreditation.

But Trump used the threat of cancelling funding to force Columbia and other schools to change their curriculum.

That’s why it’s more important than ever for Harvard to keep up the fight. They see that submitting doesn’t make it stop. On the one hand they’re the wealthiest university so can afford it but on the other hand they have so much more to lose. So much research in so many cities, states, countries, covering so many critical issues in so many fields. So many “best and brightest” from all over the world that will no longer come here. This is a huge impact on American science, and scientific reputation, a huge impact on our tech and innovation, a huge impact on legal immigration that makes a difference. As one of the news magazines said, Trump interfering with Harvard is an “own goal” against the us that could take decades, or a generation to recover from.

So much of the US has been driven by attracting the smartest most capable people from all over the world, and destroying the reputation that brings them here can not be easily rebuilt

  • But most grocery store marmalade is overly sweet and flavorless. Trader Joe’s marmalade is so much better that I’ll go there even if that’s all I’m getting.

Speaking of which I need more and I haven’t been to Trader Joe’s in too long

  • Home Depot doesn’t employ them. It’s just a convenient parking lot to hang out on looking for day jobs.

My ex’s uncle, conservative asshole had a Russian mail order bride and was staunchly against immigrants. However that didn’t stop him from going down to the Home Depot and hiring a couple to do things like clear brush and move hillsides (although karma came around and he was put on some kind of blacklist where they refused to work for him because of the work he had them do)

  • Personally I think the bidet is the problem - you aren’t going through tp quickly enough. It has more time to fall apart.

All I got is try other brands and clean more often.

While you say your partner is unwilling to switch, there are still multiple ultra soft brands. For example I’ve switched from Charmin Ultrasoft to Kirkland (Costco). It seems just as soft, but it has less dust, its individual sheets are bigger, and it’s cheaper

  • Are you open to moving?

My niece jumped on a video program in high school and is going to college for film. In both cases, industry connections were a huge part of the program, and she has been able to find a good amount of part time work to help offset the costs of college. She even has IMDb.com profile and credits.

From what little I know about the industry, this seems like one of those careers where connections are critical. Of course the problem is you’ll find only a small number of schools and locations with those connections.

I know moving is not realistic for most people so I’ll second the other recommendations about seeing what your school can do for you.

  • I hope you’re right, but I’ve been getting more and more pessimistic due to Regressive’s continuing ability to twist words around and make too many people believe the opposite of reality.

I’d put money on someone discovering the mRNA technology connection and somehow make half the US believe AIDs was caused by COViD vaccines

  • Unfortunately this will cost long-term impact that Trump won’t be around to see. The country’s reputation and leadership in scientific research are one of those areas of attack that are easy to destroy but can take a generation or more to rebuild. Combine this with trying to turn universities into propaganda factories and it will be devastating to our future

  • Automating bill payments had been such a huge change for my life - I was only sporadically able to maintain good habits but now everything just works. Minimal effort, maximum gainz!

    But I’d also include

    • tap-to-pay means I never have to carry cash, never have to pay exhorbitant atm fees, don’t even need to carry my wallet
    • online payments - even people you’d normally expect to require cash, will now take Zelle or Venmo or PayPal. No cash needed. This winter I had neighborhood kids shovel driveways that took Venmo!
    • Square. Yes, now we can even go to festivals or farmers markets without paying ridiculous fees for cash or the risk of carrying cash. My kids scout troop was an early adopter and for several years made huge donation money as one of the few booths to take credit card.
  • If you want to read it yourself, there’s an entire section. Table of contents ….

  • Did those actually provide any sort of social outlet?

That’s similar to the reason my company gives for having to be in the office but I work on the computer and go home. The only people I interact with are my remote peers

  • I guess mine was. I wanted to try it out, but I’m not willing to give away that much of my privacy to any website so it was pretty useless. There was literally nothing: fill out a form and I guess there are supposed to be emails of responses. I live in a major metropolitan area and never got any, but I refused to give details so that’s not a surprise.

I just thought there’d be something to see before I committed my privacy
