  • That decline is slower than I expected. It shows that more people stay than not

  • federation with other previously unfederated instances full of comments. just a guess.

  • What's stopping some printer company from being nice and pleasant?

Is us, who buy the cheapest model in the store without considering maintenance cost?

  • i don't want to be THAT guy, but the companies that operate these planes have done silly things like this in the past, because we will talk about it, and someone will then book it for his birthday

  • We live in a silly world. The Trial. Her facial implants. depps GFs age chart is close to diCaprio's. Even Elon plays a role. On top of that there's Trump, just like the Simpsons predicted

  • I do understand. But is lemmy so different from reddit? In each case the content is done by the users anyway, and subreddits come and go all of the time. One could argue that Facebooks aquisition of WhatsApp is the same kind of change, as switching out the reddit backend of Sync with a lemmy backend.

  • it has ads.

    and you can't post.

    but otherwise I agree.

  • It's a service, why should you pay once? It's like water and electricity, ongoing cost needs to be balanced by ongoing revenue. Especially when the utility is also ongoing.

If you prefer paying once, get some dividend ETFs and use the dividends to pay for the service. Yes, it's expensive, but you can also sell the etf again when you stop using the service.

  • Cross-Posts don't show.

  • I feel that Joe Rogan is quite open about not really knowing much about anything. It's a real shame. I'd be interested in some of his podcasts, if only the host knew what they were talking about

  • His statement isn't really about the severity of the issue, he just says that people are prone to give up

  • suburbs take up less place than i expected

  • I'll rather pay once that 10 bucks a month for the next 36 months. I also like still having the game in 15 years, after the servers have been shut down, and when i wouldnt pay a monthly fee

  • The thing is, America is culturally really influenctial. Here in Germany we have a wide variety of jobs that typically pay minimum wage. Some are service related, others aren't. It's roughly 20% of the workforce.

But we listen to american podcasts, watch your movies, your series and so on.

So waiters tend to get minimum wage + tax free tips, while cashiers just get minimum wage. Granted, tips are more like 10% here. I hate tips being an expectation.

  • without any kids. They're in for huuuge trouble.

They went from one million births in 1960 to just 250k last year.

The birth rate is below 1.

with a birth rate of 1, four grandarents make a single grandchild.

Once we go below 1, most people will never even be grandparents.

The boomers will enter retirement age soon, I'm not really sure how that will work.

They definetely won't be able to do anything against North Korea. They will either be bedridden or care for someone bedridden.
