  • Yes, people come to Lemmy to look at content and then discuss it, if we don't have content then there's no discussion.

If people don't like what you're posting, they'll let you know through votes on the posts

  • VScode locally, vim if I'm shelled into something

Used to use sublimetext, but roughly a decade ago VSCode ended up getting a lot of inertia, and that resulted in better plugins (at the time anyway)

I've used the jetbrains stuff and I do not get the hype whatsoever, it's bloaty and cumbersome.

One of the main reasons I switched from vim as my main was ping-pong pair programming. I'm not gonna be the arsehole that tries to force a junior dev to figure out vim instead of actually working on the ticket. Still 100% my go-to in text mode though, it's basically perfect.

  • How tall are you? If the answer is yes, then it's common

Go to your doctor, take the meds they give you and do the exercises and you'll feel better. Then focus on building back strength so that it doesn't happen again.

This is one of the scenarios where oats and squats actually do help

  • The entire right wing political body in 2025 is made up exclusively of people you can put on an idiot -> evil scale.

Neoliberalism was the final idea to come from the culmination of right wing thought—and it fucked everything up.

Everything the right has done since the end of the 80s is desperate powerlust, because this is it for them, there's no rational reason to believe that right wing politics will benefit the average voter. So they do everything they can to pull anyone they can into an alternative reality where the point of their existence is still valid.

  • I also am short sighted, though possibly a bit worse than you given your description. If my glasses suddenly fell off there are plenty of hazards I would potentially miss. Idiot kid about to run into the road, etc.

  • I think I'm more concerned about the unfortunate scenarios where:

Glasses fuck up meaning driver can only see near -> something that needs quick reactions happens to avoid someone dying -> driver is fumbling with glasses or trying to find a spare pair -> somebody dies

  • I don't think I want it to be possible for someone's glasses to die or freeze

People do dangerous things that are made safer by the fact they can see—like driving

Edit: you'll need a prescription because the amount of focus it needs to do will be different for everyone and there isn't a sensor to determine your eyesight

  • Most people have manual cars in the UK. Automatics are the weirder, more esoteric ones to us.

I think it's more or less a cultural thing at this point

FWIW I believe competitive drivers prefer manual control (even if the gearbox itself is automatic) because controlling when the gear change happens can make a difference in a race
