  • To be fair, it looks like the debian maintainer started the unfriendly discourse by calling the work of other FOSS devs "crap"

Everyone needs to chill out, otherwise we have another potential XZ social engineering attack

It would be catastrophic for something like keepass to have a malicious maintainer take over

  • Debian sid user here, and long time keepassxc user

Debian maintainer didnt communicate this well, but i agree that i dont want my password manager having any access to networking or interacting with anything other than the clipboard.

I'm not a developer or a security expert. This is just my gut feeling talking

  • Some people think this is a desireable feature

I personally hate having 96kbps "live" recordings from someone's cell phone suddenly injectef into my stream. But i havent used youtube music since shortly after they became youtube music

    RIP google play music

  • i think its a bit more simple than that

If a product is really good experience for you (ie. Not crammed with ads) AND you dont pay anything for it, then it's not profitable.

Google didnt become one of the biggest companies in the world by doing volunteer work for your benefit

They only exist to show ads and/or harvest your data. Once those goals are met, then the user doesnt matter. They NEVER mattered

  • To be fair, i paid like $3, 10 years ago..... So, not a great revenue stream for the developer

Obviously selling to an ad company is not good, but i'm not sure what the alternative is in a world where everyone expects everything for free
